Everyone says mino is great for bart and 1 of the best abx to be used. In this article that's updated April 2022 from Marty Ross and Zheng I'm confused now. Why did they list Cipro as a good abx for bart with all the side effects.

these are two different questions

1, how well does the antibiotic generally work for bartonella
2, what is the side effect profile of the antibiotic

you get to choose what you are comfortable with

i am not sure if i would use it - but cipro has been in use for many years - and not everyone has severe issues with it - for those that are concerned there are other options that perform well also

Both of my Lyme docs - DrJ and my previous LLND say you need either Rifampin or Rifabutin… or a fluoroquinolone plus another abx - like mino or Azithromycin.

Neither would just treat with mino.

The use of fluoroquinolones in the Lyme community is something that still makes little to no sense to me.

I understand the effectiveness angle but the risk of joining the Floxie club too.. no thanks for me.

I guess docs aren’t seeing a high risk of harm on their patient base if they continue to use them?

They are aware of the risks/side effects but if the patient is willing to take them - knowing the risks…….

After all they are the most effective against bart.

A lady I know who sees DrJ decided to take them - she read about the risks/side effects and still wanted to take them.
That was last year - she hasn’t reported any adverse reactions… yet….

I said “no” to them

From what I've heard, some docs will use Cipro but more sparingly like pulsing with weeks off.

I took it pulsed for a short time w/o any issues but then switched protocols for other reasons. Seems like Babs and Lyme are more problematic for me right now.

A general problem with bartonella is that if you use the wrong antibiotics it tends to just make it flare up and become aggressive.

When I tried taking sodium valproate, the bartonella infection just got worse, but when I added minocycline it died.

Another forum member reported that malarone (atovaquone/proguanil) caused a flare up, but was successful with atovaquone and azithromycin.

I was also successful with atovaquone and azithromycin.

Similar failures have been reported with disulfiram or kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir). If you're going to experiment with different treatments for bartonella, make sure you have something that you're fairly sure will kill it, as a back up plan in case things go wrong.
