Widespread nerve pain after Strep

So I have a mystery. I had strep throat on 12/6. It lasted about 2 days with the help of Biocidin throat spray and a garlic/oregano supplement. However, on 12/10 I woke up with nerve pain/burning across my entire body. My skin was very sensitive to touch, and it felt like a bad sunburn without redness or rash. The worst of the pain was in my legs. But, 11 days later, and the worst of the pain had moved from my legs to my arms and chest. Today the worst pain is in my back near my shoulder blades.

I find this really weird as I have never in 11 years of illness felt nerve pain like this. My theory was that my immune system was down from the strep, and the Bartonella got the upper hand.

Does Bartonella cause this kind of pain for anyone else? I'm sure it's possible, but is it common? On the pain scale of worst pain I've ever experienced, it falls just below a migraine. The pain has moved around my body. I'm hoping that now that it's come from my legs to my shoulders that I am almost in the clear. It's predominantly been a sunburn feeling, but there is sharp shooting pain across my whole body as well. And I've had some numbness in my neck.

Has strep ever caused anyone else nerve pain? I know strep can cause all sorts of problems. My Lyme doctor was mad that my functional medicine doctor didn't prescribe antibiotics for the strep, and now I am wishing she would have. It's so bad.

I was waiting for someone with direct experience to answer this, but I have heard of lots of similar things after strep. It's not uncommon for strep to affect the skin with sunburn-like appearance, sandpaper-like sensation, bumps or rashes, burning or stinging pain, scarlet fever, etc. I think the skin symptoms often arise toward the end of the illness and can impact the whole body.

Any bug or vaccine that triggers your immune system can kick up nervous system symptoms. I would try to chill out your cytokines and mast cells so that once the strep is taken care of, your immune system knows it can shut itself off and not stay in this heightened state of alert.

i was wondering if although it caused a strep throat type symptom - if it could have been a virus of some sort

there seem to be so many odd respiratory viruses like this going around in the last 12 months

in the last 12 months i have had more than i have had for all the years since getting lyme and they have often kicked up odd symptoms for some time afterwards- partly due to my immune system being messed up by lyme

what could also be happening is since we have all been locked away for most of the last 2 years - our regular immunity to these things has waned - because we are not getting exposed as much - (its known to be kept topped up/tuned up with regular relatively trivial viral infections )
and so when we are re-exposed to new viruses we have a less prepared immune system and tend to get more odd reactions - whereas before it may have just dealt with this stuff more easily and all we would have experienced is a head cold - or maybe not even known about it.

Garzie and saraeli, thank you so much for the responses. My sister and her husband tested positive for strep a few days before me, so I definitely think it was strep. I took a garlic and oregano supplement with some biocidin throat spray and it got better pretty quickly. But the nerve pain started right there with it.

I am also wondering if taking Biltricide for liver flukes contributed to the nerve pain because I took it around the same time. Something between the two really kicked up my immune response. My doctor is putting me back on LDN next week and daily b12 shots when I can get the medicine on Thursday.

So do you think that as time goes on it will get better on its own? I’ve been concerned that it might be an autoimmune response, but maybe it’s just cytokine and mast cell. I’m sure the LDN will help. I will say that I took 600 mg of Biltricide yesterday, and things seem to be a little better today. My doc said that maybe the liver fluke medicine would be anecdotal. I hope it’s better by Wednesday so I don’t have to go to the doctor to get checked out.

Thank you so much for your input. It’s been so painful and unlike any Bartonella pain I’ve ever had. I took a detox bath last night with spearmint and eucalyptus. Maybe it helped a little too.

I just heard something on the news last night about strep infections going around in kids, but it sounded like something atypical. I didn’t hear the whole story, but it caught my attention.

Okay, I searched and found an article. It’s specifically talking about kids, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t affecting anyone else. It’s affecting multiple countries.
