Happy holidays

We’ve had cold weather with snow for over two weeks now.
We’re not used to it.
The norm is - it snows a few inches - maybe a foot. Lasts for a day or two and then it rains.
Hoping Xmas day we can drive an hour to our son’s home to celebrate Xmas.

Tree is decorated - we chopped our own this year. Can’t keep the cat 🐈‍⬛ off it though.
He already toppled it and broke a few ornaments.

Feeling fortunate to have a warm cozy home.
Was in town a couple days ago and saw several homeless people pushing their shopping carts and I wonder how they’re going to survive this cold snap

That's some severe cold weather up there, Astro. Down here, it's currently 13F (-10.6C) with a 1F (-17.2C) wind chill. That's still far too cold for me. It will still drop a few more points.

How are you feeling? I hope you're getting better.

I'm on Day 6 of this cold or (?) whatever. I now have a mild cough. I thought I had strep, given how bad my throat hurt, but I went to Urgent Care and the strep test was negative. Currently, I'm trying to manage with over-the-counter meds. I have a prescription for Azithromycin, if needed, but I'm not sure if this is viral or bacterial.

Like you, I find it difficult to say "Happy Holidays" with the current state of the world. I originally wrote more on the topic, but I don't want to be a Debbie Downer on your thread.

I like the mental imagery of island music and fake palm trees in a warm cabin with a roaring fire while blizzard conditions rage outside. Have you ever heard the music of Martin Denny? If not, check out some of his albums on YouTube. Either with or without his name, also search for "Exotica" or "Tiki" music. If you like any of those, Les Baxter and Arthur Lyman may be other artists to investigate. I'm into Exotica, Tiki, Space Pop/Space Age, Lounge/Ultra-Lounge, Bachelor Pad and other such music from the 50s and 60s. Those genres aren't exactly distinct, so there's overlap among them.

Merry Christmas! I tried to take a cold bath outside yesterday but it was too much ice so I only dipped my feet. But we finally got our indoor portable cold bath so I tested it before we took an early train to my girlfriends family

Thank you for asking about me. I am on Day 7 of a 10 day round of Doxycycline after the 10 days of Augmentin didn’t finish the job. My sinuses definitely feel better and I don’t feel sick anymore since a couple days into the Doxy. I still cough, though, I get this tickle in my throat that makes me cough, and I am still using Flonase and guafenesin.

Unfortunately, as a result of the abx, I discovered a coated tongue last night, so I am oil pulling with coconut oil. Trying to minimize sweets without having a totally sugarless Christmas and trying keeping up with Nystatin, S. Boullardii, and probiotics. May try some type of fasting after the holidays.

I am so sorry you and Astroman and others have been sick, too, especially at Christmas.

As to traveling, well it’s just down the road about 15 minutes from home. No way could I sleep in the car in these temperatures. Wind chill was supposed to be like 6F last night or this morning. I extended the stay an extra night, so we’re here until noon Monday.

Costing a small fortune, but I consider it an emergency. There are cheaper places, but they’re moldy. This place is clean and only 3 years old. I have had no mold symptoms here.

I also am very grateful Mom and I can be together, as I can’t go in the house at all and have to stay outside or in the car, so we have been separated like that since April 2021. She has been showing serious mental decline that has gotten dramatically worse since Thanksgiving. We both needed a break from survival to be together without hardship and sleep in real beds and have a good hot breakfast that didn’t come from McDonald’s🤗.

As hard as my life sounds, there are so many in far worse circumstances. Praying for those across the country who are suffering from the severe weather, and especially those who lost power.

Praying all the sick folks get well quickly and feel better.

Dude- I Listened to part of a Denny Martin album on YouTube. A couple songs sounded kind of familiar, like the ones that are locked in your memory from adolescent years but you never heard them after that. During the Late 60s and early 70s my whole extended family would have theseTiki, bossa nova, tango themed parties. My sibs and I rediscovered some Kodachrome slides of these parties at a relatives northern lake resort, anyone could look at these photos and say “wow,...what a groovy time”! Lol... Definitely a time capsule. The placemats at the tables were all variations of the Hamm’s beer bear.

(Now I wish we would’ve kept some of their old albums as stinky as they were. Old albums and old books both get that old dusky smell,.. I’m sure someone figured out something nowadays to fix that.)

-40? Wow. That's incredible. It got to like -10F here with the wind chill and that was extremely unusual. When it was that cold one night I took my dog out around 11pm and he just wanted to sniff bushes and I was uhhhhh NO. Lol.

The swing in temperature around here is crazy. It'll be back in the 60s here in the next day or two.
