It can occasionally get very cold here. windchill record near my uncles place years ago was -71 degrees F by the new formula after 2002 (-100 degrees F by the old formula).
Without windchill, the record is -60F in 1996, I luckily only felt a calm -40F that morning about
35 miles away. I hope to never feel that again.
Its usually not windy after -30F, the outdoor world is surreal when that happens, the snow and slightest sounds are a lot louder too, trees can get loud not even moving..”crack”! The little black and white chickadee birds are the only animals that still come out it those temps.
I would like to visit Death Valley some day, so I could say Ive walked on some of the coldest and warmest ground in the lower 48 states. Never been in the extreme Southwest.
