Anyone ever been diagnosed or suspected PEI? I'm really confused and frustrated at the moment . Started I want to say in 2019 which I thought were gallbladder issues. Can lyme and co infections cause pancreatitis or can bart cause this? Is sibo or candida a factor to contribute to it? The pain I'm having is pancreaitis.. I had a HIDA scan that they said looked good function and normal ultrasound. You can see sludge really on a ultrasound can you? Really curious if abx and prolong use can also cause pancreas issues. Have to do stool test now to check for pancreatic enzyme insufficiency. What a bummer.

In 2020 I developed fatty stools that still have not gone away. That’s my only symptom, though. Enzymes and other bloodwork was normal. Do you have symptoms other than pain? Are your pancreatic enzymes normal?

The pancreas enzyme level seems to be their gold standard for pancreas health. Your results can be perfect and still have a messed up gut too. That was my case. I had imaging with the same thing going on four years ago so they did not repeat that.

You have pain, I did not. So I hope they do more investigating for you than they did for me.

I just got done going through the Gastro clinics nine month ordeal then to tell me exactly what I told them when I went in there in June. That I have fatty stools. And then that’s what they told me in November. They didn’t help at all. All they did is tell me what I don’t have but they couldn’t figure out how to fix what I do have.

Medical detectives ,....these specialist are not.

gall bladder pain - intense - pulsing pain - comes in waves - usually an hour or so after meals - often in the form of acute attacks that are so severe you end up in the ER - feels like some one has a foot pump connected to your internal organs - location is specific - under lowest right rib - can cause be referred pain into right shoulder area.

pancreases pain - left side towards more central abdomen area - above belly button - more constant - less intense ( typically )

My pain is center upper abdomen. Never left nor right, always center. I know pancreas pain is excruciating and also it can happen right after eating high carb or fatty meals as well. Also with pancreatic pain it's a dull throbbing or tightening sensation or it can be like someone stuck a knife through you.

Usually it's constipation for me but the fatty oily stools are only after fatty or greasy foods. Sometimes I'll eat a burger and I'm fine, other times a burger, ricotta cheese or other crap with give me fatty stools that are oily and foul. I just don't get it. Mushrooms also do it for me and also bread sometimes . I know mushrooms can do this because of sibo and bread can do it because of gluten. I don't have celiac disease because I was tested and negative but I know know bread is awful for sibo and candida overgrowth but also we aren't supposed to have gluten when we have Lyme because gluten screws us up when we have lyme and makes us have a gluten sensitivity.

I'm glad you are having testing done to help clarify what is going on.

You asked about biliary tract sludge - no, sometimes you cannot see it on an ultrasound.

I have had issues all along the biliary tract in the past, and they can be absolutely excruciating!

If your pain is right in the center, and testing doesn't show any issues with your organs, then one other idea for you is possibly a hiatal hernia. Some can fix it with a simple maneuver you can do at home (easy to find on YouTube), so it's worth a try.

All my gi doc ever checks is my amylase levels which were okay. Now I need to do stools test. I've heard hida scan and ultrasound can't detect gallbladder sludge. Bloodwork has always been borderline as in the numbers were about to be low or either high and my doc said all looked fine . At the ER they said it sounds like pancreatitis and put me on a liquid diet for 1 week, couldn't explain why it was happening though.
