Several of us have recently reported having what seemed to be some viral illness -- WalkingbyFaith, Astroman, RainyCloud, Garzie, me, Lightlife, and Lymie24 are the ones I recall.
I'm not sure if any of us had RSV, though, as I don't think any of us were tested for it. Astro did test positive for COVID. I saw several doctors, over the first two weeks, but they only tested me for strep throat -- which was negative. I was never tested for RSV, Flu, or COVID.
Not knowing much about RSV, I just read the following:
"Reinfection with RSV remains common throughout life. Reinfection in adulthood often produces only mild to moderate symptoms indistinguishable from the common cold or sinus infection. (emphasis mine) Infection may also be asymptomatic. If present, symptoms are generally isolated to the upper respiratory tract: runny nose, sore throat, fever, and malaise. In the vast majority of cases, nasal congestion precedes the development of cough. In contrast to other upper respiratory infections, RSV is also more likely to cause new onset wheeze in adults. Only about 25% of infected adults will progress to significant lower respiratory tract infection, such as bronchitis or tracheobronchitis."
I had a very bad sore throat, for sure. Early on, I had congestion. After about two weeks, though, I began having a runny nose. I've already been dealing with malaise for years, so that was nothing new. Thankfully, I never had any fever and I was fortunate that my chest stayed clear. After about two weeks, I developed a moderate cough that would get more intense at times. I had sneezing fits, too.
Today is Day 29 for me and the cough is almost completely gone. I'm hoping it will be gone after another day or two. Unfortunately, despite me not having much of an appetite for the first week of being sick, I didn't lose any weight. :-( Also, I took five days of Azithromycin. I started that around Day 13. Several days after finishing the antibiotic, I blew my nose and ejected a huge glob of dark yellow mucus followed by three smaller globs.
WalkingbyFaith's illness began around November 29th, and, as recently as a week ago, she was much better but still not back to baseline. Her illness involved her ears and I believe she went through (at least) two different antibiotics and some ear drops. Both she and Astroman reported their illness seemed unusual and not like any previous cold or flu. This was true for me, too.
Did you and your husband test positive for RSV?
We weren’t tested. My husband had a phone appt with our GP and requested abx - but doc said “no” - figured it was viral.
I’ve not experienced anything life this in my life.
My husband did a Covid test when he first got first and it was negative.
Husband has missed a week of work and I yesterday I called and cancelled the shift I had scheduled to work.
