Hi everyone!
I suddenly have a rash on 50% of my body. It started on my hip and spread all over torso, down arms, in folds of skin. It’s itchy.
I’m wondering if it’s poison ivy, an allergic reaction or yeast. How would I tell the difference? It didn’t respond to Benadryl, Claritin or topical Benadryl. It seems to respond to calamine lotion.
If this is poison ivy on top of Lyme, I’m not sure what God is trying to teach me haha

sorry to hear your suffering - new symptoms can be distressing

i'm not sure if there are easy ways to tell the difference - but i would have thought you would know if you have been exposed to poison ivy and it would tend to pop up in all the exposed areas at once - if it was that - rather than from one spot and then spread.

i guess it could be a reaction to something you have eaten or medications you are taking ( skin reactions can be reactions to medications ) - they can pop up suddenly

Are you taking anything with andrographis or lomatium herbs in it? Both of those can cause rashes.

Are you taking Rx drugs? Which ones?

Poison ivy, and poison sumac will eventually develop reddish clear colored fluid filled small blisters. The itch comes first, then the blisters, and then it gets even worse.

Yeast is more of a dry dusty itch that will eventually make your skin red if you scratch it. It will eventually flake. Dandruff on peoples hair is just a fancy PC label for yeast on your scalp. The shampoo, Nixoral not coincidentally, will help some what with yeast on skin.

Here are the photos

It started Wednesday last week on my hip and spread. I’ve tried Benadryl, Claritin, calamine lotion, ice and anti-fungal creams. It’s really itchy

I was taking IS-borr and crypolepis(CSA), I stopped the herbs yesterday. Last week on Monday I did start a new herb tincture from beyond balance MC-Bab-1. I stopped taking that now. I ate a lot of cashews/dates Monday-Wednesday.

There are no blisters. I called my LLND and he said to go to urgent care if it gets worse.

We did get baby chicks the day before it started

well done on the pictures

hard to know exactly what it is

although due to the very wide area its covering i would say its likely to be some kind of immune reaction to something - rather than poison ivy or even yeast

for what its worth i have had small patches of very similar looking rashes in the past ( i'm positive for lyme and bart) that self resolved after a week or so

i think its wise to stop taking anything that you started taking recently - just in case it triggered it

and in the mean time think its safe to use mild calming things like calamine lotion to try and stop the itching
may also be worth trying a H1 or H2 blocker ( anti-histamines ) in case that helps calm things down

if it starts getting worse i think defo take the LLND's advice and go to urgent care

i think it will most likely calm down though - hang in there

I think so too.

During treatment with Dr J I had a large red patch like yours’ on my stomach area and also the back.

I believe mine was during the Babesia protocol with Mepron.

That looks exactly like my allergic reaction to Plaquenil, about 70% of my body was covered. The doctor said it was an allergic reaction.

The only thing that helped was Tavegyl (clemastine) and sadly Prednisolone (didn't want that one, but had no choice), all the other anti-histamines didn't work. I would really see a doctor, even just a GP for this.

It looks exactly like what my body looked like. Wish I still had the pictures.

Did you notice any Lyme symptoms increase with the steroid?
I had a virtual appointment with the GP and shared the photos with a dermatologist family friend and they said I probably need steroids.

Are you taking Bactrim or any other sulfa drug? Any Rx drugs/antibiotics?

IS-Borr has black walnut. Are you allergic to walnuts?

steroids are probably fine for a short while for people who do not have lyme

but many medics are not aware of the impact of steroids on people who have lyme - in that they are well documented to make outcomes worse - as they suppress the immune system and allow the infections to get greater hold.
( there are studies of this from the early days of lyme - when it was recognised lyme was an inflammatory disease - and so they tried steroids - but long term outcomes were worse)

therefore when considering this option i would suggest its important to weigh both the advantages and potential risks of that intervention before going ahead.

i'm not saying don't take them - or worry you unnecessarily

i just want you to be aware there may be risks that your care providers are not aware of so you dont take them casually - and make sure to discuss it with your provider

most skin reactions like this do calm down within a week or so when the triggering substance is removed

so perhaps steroids, even though they might be routinely used for people without lyme, may not be needed - for example if its not currently worsening.

Thank you for that information!

So I put prescription strength hydrocortisone cream all over the rash and it improved about 70% over night thank God. Maybe I’ll be able to avoid the oral steroids.
