I’ve been meaning to provide an update for a while now.
As a brief recap, I had an untreated tick bite with a bullseye rash in 2013, with a slow decline thereafter until I finally accepted that this was probably Lyme. While my PCP couldn’t do anything for me as my Elisa test always came back negative she did help me try to rule out any other causes of my symptoms which was helpful at least.
I decided to treat with herbs, following Buhner’s protocol, and I had a slow but steady recovery. However for years after I was mostly better I found it difficult to stop herbal treatment completely. I still had vague symptoms which I associated with Lyme (mostly inflammation, fog and sleep issues).
Recently I discovered that there was one thing that my PCP had not ruled out - hereditary hemochromatosis! I’m still in the process of figuring things out as the version I have seems a bit more tricky to manage than classic HH which relies solely on blood draws but at least I now know the cause of those nagging symptoms that I had always associated with Lyme and why the herbs that I ultimately continued to use were still effective for managing symptoms.
Anyway, I just wanted to pop by to say that healing is possible, and, that it’s important to continue to explore other contributing factors to symptoms as many of us are dealing with a tapestry of issues.
Thank-you again to everyone who helped me on my healing journey and wishing everyone health and insight for the new year.
