yes - all of the literature originally stated that bartonella was a self limiting acute febrile illness only
there is however now hundreds of papers showing it can become a chronic life altering illness
take a look at any of the papers by Professor Ed Breischwerdts and his team at Duke university
this kind of evolution of scientific understanding and dogmatic resistance to change from previously held beliefs is a common feature of our medical system
one of the reasons is that the text books each generations taught from are themselves 20 years old
so change is slow - even when new knowledge is found.
the fact tat there were only 3 species of bartonella known up until around the 1980's and one of those was only in regions of south America - and it was only when it was found to be causing chronic illness in aids patients was its true nature begun to be uncovered. this makes it a relatively new and emerging disease - and this helps explain why there are such poor recognition of it or tests for it.
it still remains to be answered why some people become chronically ill and others resolve the infection
clearly the immune system plays a role here - as it does will all chronic illnesses - and in particular all tick born illnesses
many of us can identify stressors or disruptions in our lives that may have suppressed our immune system and caused us to be one of those that succumbed to the chronic disease.
chronic work stress, emotional stress, lack of sleep, trauma, grief, mental health issues - etc etc can all seriously impair the immune system and encourage chronic illness.
i do feel its worth auditing our past lifestyles to see if we can identify the factors that may have suppressed our immune system in our individual case - leading to chronic illness - and then correct those - as a means of helping our body and immune system aid its recovery.
