Hi all,

I am worried about these two ABX, anyone took rifampicin and then switched to rifabutin without pause?

I have taken both - but with a pause.
My LLMD (Dr. J) said Rifabutin was “cleaner” and more effective.

I had treated bart with Rifampin with my first Lyme doc and got better - but not completely well.

Then I treated with Dr J and am considered in remission.
Was it the Rifabutin? Or was it the fact that he treats all patients for Babesia before Bartonella and it was the Babesia that was hindering my remission??

Regarding the "without pause" part - I wouldn't be too concerned about switching from rifampin to rifabutin because rifampin has a pretty short half life (3-4 hours). Assuming you are waiting until your next dosing time to start rifabutin (i.e., like 12 hours or so later), there will be very little rifampin left in your system by then.

I'd be more concerned if switching in the other direction (rifabutin to rifampin), because rifabutin has a very long half life (days), so you'd probably want to wait awhile for the rifabutin to clear out before starting rifampin.

I'm afraid of new medicines aswell since i got really severe with Low Dose Naltrexone and the medical PTSD really didnt get any better since then so I May relate to your Feelings of anxiety.

All i can say is that while Rifampin is of course Not an easy medicine you'll Most likely Take it for a reason. Further you'll Most likely Work with a doctor that Monitors your blood Work and can step in If anything Happens.

If you're very anxious Like me you could Take your First dosages with a Care Person , f.e. Family member, friend, neighbour etc. This would make you feel extra Safe.
