Hello!
I was trying to convert the recommended tincture dosing to the root powder dosing (I fill capsules with cryptolepis powder), but in order to do that you need to know the density. Turns out, the density of cryptolepis is nowhere to be found.
It wasn't available on any search engine so I measured it myself and wanted to post the results here. Maybe someone who needs this information in the future (or now), will find it that way.
Please feel free to correct any mistakes. Math isn't really my thing.
To measure it, I used a graduated syringe for this. So I filled a 4mL syringe with cryptolepis sanguinolenta root powder up to the 4mL marking and then poured the powder onto a milligram scale. That gave me 2.15 grams of powder.
So we know now:
Density = Mass / Volume
Density = 2.15 / 4mL
Density = 0.5375
So the density of Cryptolepis Sanguinolenta root powder is 0.5375 g/mL.
Now here's an example of why this could be helpful:
The Cryptolepis Root Extract (Tincture) by Woodland Essence has the following information:
Ratio plant to menstruum: 1:5.
And let's use their 2oz tincture as example, (which is 60mL).
So therefore:
Plant material = Total volume / Total parts = 60 mL / 6 = 10 parts
Weight of plant material = Plant material (in parts) x Density of root powder
Weight of plant material = 10 parts x 0.5375 g/mL = 5.375 grams
So the Woodland Essence tincture uses 5.375 grams of Cryptolepis in a 2 oz tincture.
Now, I think that there are 20 drops per mL (please correct me if this is wrong).
So that means: 60 mL x 20 drops/mL = 1,200 drops in an entire bottle.
The bottle says take between 60 drops to 240 drops, twice a day.
So if you want to take this in root powder instead of tincture, here is the equal dosage in powder:
For 60 drops:
60 drops / 1,200 total drops = 1/20 of the total tincture
1/20 of 5.375 grams = 0.26875 grams of root powder (take twice a day)
For 240 drops:
240 drops / 1,200 total drops = 1/5 of the total tincture
1/5 of 5.375 grams = 1.075 grams of root powder (take twice a day)
This example uses the Woodland Essence tincture, but it should contain enough data to calculate it with different tinctures and doses.
