Hey all!

I hope you all are doing well. Recently I've been taking Ceftin (abx) and Coptis (herbal) for the pain behind my ear and the pain in my mastoid bone won't go away. I've gone to the instacare and seen my doctor and no one is concerned it's an infection they believe more so it's inflammation. What should I do for this?

Also my throat is still swelling. It is actually why I am on here tonight. It is very tight tonight. I have tried Cromolyn Sodium which my doctor thought would be helpful for it and it actually makes it worse. Hydroxyzine has seemed to be all that helps. My doctor is wondering if it's Eosinophilic Esophagitus and Mast Cell is what's causing the irritation just nothing we've really tried has helped. I really would love advice for this. It feels like major inflammation and it is so hard to focus on anything and gives me a lot of anxiety as it feels hard to breath.

Is the throat swelling in the front of your throat or the back of your throat? Singulair is supposed to help with throat swelling. It helps my back of the throat swelling. Are you in any abx other than ceftin? Clindamycin also helps back of the throat swelling for me. Front of hr throat swelling for me I associate with when my estrogen peaks, and it's help my armour thyroid meds for me, but a lot of docs find this nonsensical so I don't know if that's just a me thing.

I've read people experiencing certain types of Eagle's syndrome ear stabbing pains in their ears and for some their elongated styloids actually stick out in their throat. You have to find a special doctor to evaluate you for that.

The throat swelling is definitely more prominent in the front. That's interesting about Singulair. My mom uses it all the time and swears by it. Maybe I could try it, though. I do get asthma, but mostly only when I'm around pet dander.
I am finishing the Ceftin today, and I am not on any other antibiotic. What happens with your estrogen peaks and armour thyroid? I am on NP Thyroid and can't tell if it helps the situation or is making it worse. I have definitely wondered about my hormones, though.
I saw an ENT for my throat, and he said everything looked pretty good, but that was just with a quick laryngoscopy in the office.

When my estrogen peaks, I'm more likely to feel allergic to everything and the front of my throat feels swollen. Armour thyroid which I think is the same as np thyroid(?) decreases this swelling of me. DAO also helps some and ketotifen. Ketotifen has been much more effective for me than h1 or h2 blockers and more than gastrochrome.

Have you tried eliminating certain fillers in meds? Lactose causes me issues. If you have Eosinophilic esophagitis, you might be able to try dupixent.

Elongated styloids in eagles syndrome will only appear in the back of your throat if it's really really bad in a particular way. You usually need to get a ct venogram to check for it properly, (I think). Here are a bunch of different types that can cause various issues, and practitioners bicker about what's strictly labeled as Eagle's syndrome. You can get ijv compression, or the styloid can just be poking in nerves. There's a Dr Hepworth in CO who's good with Eagle's syndrome stuff. There's also a neurosurgeon Dr B in NY. There are others too that I don't know off the top of my head.

Yeah, I have actually noticed that as well, or when my cycle hits, everything is worse.

Yeah, Gastrochrome is what I tried recently, and honestly, I just got worse with it. Maybe I should ask about the ketotifen. I'm even considering the singulair. I've already written my doctor about it. Yeah, I could also consider Dupixent. My son has taken it, and it has helped him a lot with his asthma and eczema. I'm open to any suggestions or experiences you might have. My doctor is leaning towards EoE due to the fact I have high eosinophils. I've had those for years though long before this throat stuff.

The back of my throat does not seem to be an issue. It's honestly just the front, and it happens at random or in cycles, I am noticing. I am not too worried about Eagles syndrome. I had a CT angiogram about 8 months ago, and everything was normal as well. This definitely seems to have something to do with my inflammatory process, and I think hormones and allergies really provoke it.

You could get the size of your thyroid checked if you haven't already. For me front of the throat swelling is decreased by taking more armour thyroid meds. There are a couple mcas docs that are good with hormones that I haven't seen due to funds and logistical things. The most famous one is probably Dr Maitland. I also sometimes have trouble with my progesterone is low. I'm assuming that's some combo of low progesterone means lower cortisol and low progesterone means lower dao. So dao will sometimes help both at estrogen peaks snd progesterone lows.

Some people like taking quercetin too, though it's not one of my staples.

When my throat was tight in the past, it was from one of two things. The beginning of Hashimoto and occasional neck muscle tension.
