Can anyone explain this type of headache?

I have had headaches quiet frequently since 1996. They start at the base of my skull. If I apply pressure right at the base it lightens up. I have been to the doctor many many times through the years. I have had xrays, ct scans and mri, which are normal. I have resorted to going to chiropractor for any comfort. It helps but only for a day or two. I have went back to the doctor again and he has put me on topamax. I just started that yesterday. Does anyone have any ideas? Anyone else experience these types of headaches? Please tell me I'm not just crazy.

Hello tmlindsey,

Don't worry, you're only as crazy as the rest of us :P Your headaches almost sound like atypical tension headaches to me. Have you ever tried accupuncture or accupressure?

i agree I suffer from migrane headaches on a weekly basis at minimum. My doc recently told me that she could feel the tension in my neck and shoulders and said that this could contribute to the duration and strength of my headache since I was having a combo of two types.
