Hi i am new here, forgive me if this has been answered before. I am 49 and in menopause. I take Imitrex when i feel a migrain coming on but dont like to take till evening since it makes me sleepy. My headaches are always sharp pain in one temple with that eye usually watering, and mild nausea. the pain is pretty dibilitating. I have been getting them more frequently lately. instead of once a month, it is about once or twice a week. I dont always take the Imitrex, save that for when OTC s dont work. Any relation to hormones? I used to get them in late teens then quit after i had kids, now back again.

My migraines are hormone related. I am 34 but about a week before my cycle starts I have to really be careful and pay attention, I am very lucky that I usually get aura before the attack and am able to treat it right away with Zomig. The headache you are describing is what I have had since Monday. It starts behind my eye and is not helped with the Zomig. I had to go to the ER after a few days for a shot which helped a little but not much. Mine switched off between attacks, first the right eye with tearing and my nose running, then after it went away (never fully away just kinda a regular headache when it calmed down) then it would come back in the left eye. They are terrible! You may want to ask your doctor for something other than the Imitrex. I cannot take Imitrex or Maxalt they make me very nauseous and tired, Zomig and Relpax I can use with no problem other then the normal neck and shoulder pain.
