Sharp, stabbing pain on right side of head

Hey all! I am new here, so bear with me. lol

I am 18 years old, and I am a female. Today I have been having a sharp, stabbing, jabbing pain on the right side of my head. It comes and goes..off and on all day long. I am really, really freaking out about it. I am scared that I have a brain tumor...or a brain aneurysm...but mainly the latter. I don't have it all the time. The last time this occured was a few days before Christmas...and right before I got a cold. Yesterday I did have a slightly congested nose....with the runniness and everything. Gosh, I was fine yesterday!! But, this morning I pretty much woke up with it, and it has been going on all day long. I am really scared out of my mind.

Any ideas??? Any help is appreciated!!

First I am not an expert on headaches. The regular moderator is busy and I am just watching the place here for a bit.

It is unlikely that the pain you describe is either a tumor or an aneurysm based on one day of pain. A brain aneurysm will cause symptoms that one generally cannot ignore. The pain would likely be so intense as to make it impossible to post a thread on the internet.

Headache pain can come in all forms - from the kind you describe to dull aches, light sensitivity and/or visual distrubances. Viral infections, fever, sinus problems, high blood pressure, tension - are just a few of the things that can cause headaches.

If you still have a headache when you read this - since it is now 2 days since your post - then you really should seek medical treatment.

Could be a cluster headache or severe migraine - would definitely see your regular doctor or better yet a neurologist.
