I recently had a PFO closure and found the procedure to be very comfortable. I was awake for the whole thing and have had little concern. The day I left the hospital I received tragic news around my family. Since this news my heart has been flipping and flopping around. The nurse at the cardiologist suggested that it was a fairly common post-op psycho somatic symptom. While I understand the theory, my "episodes" don't seem to occur while I'm thinking about
my heart, they happen at random times. Has anyone else experienced this? I have a week to go before my follow up and while I'm concerned, I don't want to spend another half day in ER strapped to a monitor if I'm just thinking too much. Any thoughts?

I have a benign heart murmer. Mine goes thump thump thump double thump thump thump thump double thump thump etc...you catch drift. Maybe see a cardiac doc to see if you have a murmer?

Did you have a murmur before the PFO closure?

Hi uthusker,
If you go over to the Heart & Cardiovascular Disease forum there are many threads on PFO's and there are several discussions around those of us that have developed irregular heartbeats after PFO closures. It's not uncommon and is a side affect of the heart getting used to the device. Some Cardiologists tell you about
this and some don't.

I have a heart murmer as well and an irregular heart beat. I have had it now for 13 years and my heart skips, flutters, jumps around and races. It is scary, but in my case, it isn't dangerous or cause for any concern. It is just how my heart is. I wouldn't worry too much, but always best to follow up with your Dr.
