First migraine over 50

My wife is over 50 and got her first migraine about 4 months ago. Her last episode is going on 8 weeks now with no relief. She was hospitalized 2 weeks ago, mri and ct normal. Sent home with Neurontin, Dilaudid, xanax and the headache she came in with. Dr added promethazine for nausea and 1 week later changed med to Nortriptyline. She had been on Tamoxifen which can cause headaches; it has been DCd with no change. Is it unusual for someone to start getting migraines after 50? Anyone used Nortriptyline? How long to work?

Her migraine broke today! Thank you, Jesus! Celebrating today, don't know what tomorrow will bring.

I'm so glad her migraine broke!!! I would be finding a Neurologist who specializes in migraines.

I'm 37, had my first migraine 2.5 years ago that lasted 4 months. To this day it still hasn't completely gone away, it just gets better then worse...good days/bad days.

Best of luck to you and your wife! I hope she continues doing well!

Her headache came back yesterday. She is trying to repeat whatever she did to make it better. I took her to the dentist the other day to check for TMJ. He did some minor adjustments but didn't see anything major. He also said she should take motrin and spend 1 hr alternating between hot and cold on jaw joint for a week. I started her on Magnesium, B2, and Butterbur to see if it helps. I have been searching for a good neurologist specializing in migraines. Anyone know of a good one in Las Vegas?
