Hi Ryan,
Sorry about
the pain. That sounds pretty aweful.
First off, it's not that uncommon for people in their twenties to develop migraines (it usually happens in the teens and twenties).
That being said, since the pain started out in your back and neck (and then eventually moved to include head pain), I wonder if you're really dealing with something else entirely. I.e. the head pain is actually Referred Pain or is secondary to the original injury. The rapid change in vision also seems odd.
When doctors tell you that it's in your head, that's pretty unhelpful. Just because they lack the knowledge/experience/specialty training doesn't mean it's bogus.
Did you get into any car accidents, were you close to any explosions or did you bang your back/neck while deployed or shortly before deployment? Even if a problem doesn't develop immediately after a "trauma", you can still develop a problem weeks to months later.
Being deployed in Iraq, you're exposed to some parasites/viruses that you would not be stateside. It's possible that you contracted something while in country. Getting tested for those things wouldn't be a bad idea.
It could even be something that you were exposed to pre-deployment. I know of someone who was bit by a tick and got Lyme Disease while going through basic.
Could you get yourself transfered to a medical facility for evaluation (e.g. Walter Reed)? Its going to take some insightful GP's or several specialists to get to the bottom of this.
Don't give up! Keep pushing ahead to figure this out!
