Where can I get Cafergot

How can I get some Cafergot or Ergotamine Tartrate and Caffeine Tablets? My daughter and I are out as of a few weeks ago. I have been told they are not being manufactured in the US anymore (because the companies haven't gotten enough orders). They are approved by the FDA. Nothing else has ever worked for me - I have had migraines for 45 years and tried everything.

My poor daughter has been in bed for three days straight. I hate seeing her suffer like this - she can't go to work or college. Does anyone know where we could buy some? I have a prescription. Thanks....

And do you know which countries might manufacture it?

Hmmm... that's a conundrum. Have you tried calling all your local pharmacies to see if they have any remaining tablets?

I guess you could go the internet pharmacy route. I haven't done this before and so couldn't recommend individual companies. I do know that some are more reputable than others. Do your due diligence and research first.

I hope you find something that works!

ps... I see you've commented on a couple posts that addresses the link between MSG and migraine. Is MSG one of your triggers? If so, have you tried lamictal as a preventative? I don't remember the exact pharmacology, but I believe that it is thought that lamictal reduces the release of glutamate (msg = monosodium glutamate) from presynaptic vesicles.

I know that the med can make some peoples M's worse, but I have also read anecdotal reports that it can be helpful (particularly in MSG sensitive people, who have classical migraine).

I have never tried lamictral; thanks for the suggestion. I spent 10 hours making calls about Cafergot over the past two days. I located it in Canada and learned that by getting a doctor with a dual license (US and Canada), I can have access to Cafergot from a Canadian pharmacy. I went through the 1400 family doctors listed on the Ontario Canada website. I also found Cafergot in one supplier distribution center in the US and am ordering it today. It was extremely difficult pulling this information out of people; no one wanted to release any info to "the patient." I spoke to the FDA, various drug manufacturers, etc. The pharmacy which is hundreds of miles from where I live (where I am buying it today) refuses to ship it to me, so I have to pay someone to pick it up and send it. No one should have to go through 10 grueling hours like this. The FDA, doctors, pharmaacies have way too much power and the system is not designed to help the patient.

What is this medication? I live in Ontario.

It is Cafergot. I just found it in one area of the US in the No. California / Oregon area. I also found it in Ontario, but could not find a doctor who would take a US prescription and convert it to a Canadian prescription. I am going the US route naturally right now, but in the future may need to figure out a way to go the Canadian route.

It's an older migraine medication. I have been taking it for 31 years. You take it at the onset of migraine and it constricts the blood vessels.

IC, my headaches are not migraines, they are continuous.

Valleygirl....can you tell me the manufacturer of the Cafergot you ordered? Is it namebrand or a generic? I too, have used it for years, and have had difficulty getting it. My local pharmacy is a compounding pharmacy and compounded some for me, but it did not work as well. Some generics have worked for me, and some have not. I am terrified of not having this in my medicine cabinet!! It has saved my life for years!! Thank you so much for your help!
