I'm new to these forums and like so many others I have been looking thru the posts to see if there are similar situations to mine. I have seen some posts with similar symptoms, but none with what I have been experiencing lately.
Long story short, I have been getting migraines since age 5. I'll be 35 this month. 10 years ago I was officially diagnosed with chronic migraines, but then the doctor who diagnosed me said he couldn't see me any more because he was no longer accepting the insurance I had at the time. That doctor tried me on several different medications and a couple of them worked really well, but I couldn't afford the cost of them.
Went back to my old doctor who put me back on Naprosyn, and I have been taking that ever since. However, I have been asking my doctor for a few years now to please try me on something different because the Naprosyn no longer has any effect on me. In the last year, my doctor has refused to see me or prescribe me anything because he says that he believes I am drug seeking, not to mention I don't have insurance, so I'm still paying on old bills with him. Because the Naprosyn no longer works for me, and OTC meds have no effect, I have been to the Emergency Room at least once a month or more since June of last year. My most recent being this past Monday where they gave me some Tylenol and said to go home & rest.
Ok, now here's my problem. My doctor is refusing to see me. The migraine I have now I have had for almost 3 weeks, with each day of pain varying in intensity. My job is in jeopardy because I go to work but have to leave in the middle of the day because the pain gets worse or I start vomiting or blacking out. I don't have insurance and can't afford to find a new doctor, but I can't go see a Neurologist without a referral, even tho I have found one that will accept patients without insurance (still have to have the referral). To top all of this off, since this migraine started I have had something new happen. I not only have the nausea, vomiting, light & sound sensitivity, but I've also had diarrhea. The worse the pain, the worse the diarrhea. I've also been blacking out for longer periods of time. Generally its only been for a few seconds in the past, now its upwards of a few minutes. Plus my depression is getting a lot worse.
I'm not sure exactly what I'm asking for advice or help wise, but I know I need it. Maybe a homeopathic remedy or something? Someone who knows of a Neuro who will see me without a referral? Something? Anything? I just need help. I'm getting desperate to not be in constant pain.
Sorry for the long post, or vent or rant, or whatever you want to call it.
