Amy, I really feel for you
I was exactly where you are only a few months ago. I felt like I had tried everything and had nowhere else to turn. I too was misdiagnosed with TMJ and menstrual migraine. I've been accused of inflicting my migraines on myself by being too anxious and prescribed anti-anxiety meds. Then I was told it was my 'hormones' and that I should try to learn to live with it. I was completely at the end of my road with it.
Then I stumbled on something I never dreamed would help. I'm not saying this will help you but if there is a chance its worth a try. I began to take a daily IRON supplement and my migraines have gone from daily to only 2 in the past 6 weeks, this has not happened in 20 years. Now if I do get a headache it disappears on its own with sleep or normal OTC asparin. This never happened before I was constantly having to swallow triptans to even lead a semi normal life (if you can call it that with migraine). Left untreated my migraines would last 5 days at least with only 3 days in was lucky before the next one arrived. During those migraines I was bedridden unable to even lift my head off the pillow.
I found that there is a link between low iron levels and the brain not recieving enough oxygen, this therefore causes the blood vessels in the brain to swell hence causing the migraine. I don't know if this is why some people find recieving oxygen helps their migraine. I never tried this so I dont' know.
This was the last thing I thought was causing my migraines and I only began to take iron tablets really to relieve my restless leg syndrome. I never dreamed it would cure me of the migraines that have wrecked my life for the past 20 years!!
Maybe have a blood test just to check?
I really hope you feel better soon I know exactly how it feels for you
Julie
