Pressure under left eye

Wondering if anyone else has experienced what I'm experiencing, and where it lead them:

Began with slight pressure under left eye in June of 2010, which felt like something was pressing up on it. Not painful at all. Also felt like a tiny muscle was going to tic/spasm, but it never did.

Sensation went away June of 2011, then came back this fall (sep/oct). When it did it was accompanied by numbness/tingling around the left eye, as well as left side of forehead above it.

Then light-headedness, occasional ringing in the ear, pressure feelings in head. These are current symptoms. Direct correlation between eye use (I am a writer and am on computer all day, every day) and symptom flare-ups/worsening.

My GP referred me to an opthamologist, who did a pretty thorough examination of my eyes and found nothing. When I asked her what could be causing the feeling of pressure on lower part of left eye she said it could be a "referred symptom," meaning, it's literally referred from another part of the brain. She also briefly suggested diet and "dryness," whatever that means.

When I asked her if I should be alarmed she said "no," with no hesitations. She referred me to a neurologist.

The neurologist had me walk around the office, follow her fingers with my eyes, test nerve response to vibration device. All results fine. She has scheduled an MRI. When I asked her what could be going on she said it could be nothing -- hyper-sensitive nerves in forehead (which would explain tingling/numbness); a tumor; or incipient MS.

Strangely, I was more comfortable with her putting all options on table rather than the opthamologist's (very well-meaning) reassurances.

My instincts tell me this is a tumor. All input welcome. Thanks.

The results of the MRI were good -- no tumor and no MS and no signs of stroke.

They did find two tiny spots on my brain which she (the neurologist) couldn't explain, she said they're fairly common anomalies/abnormalities and to think of them like skin moles -- those are anomalies too but not a big deal. Another way to look at is if you did MRIs of everyone in the US you'd find these things all over the place.

Bottom line is that they're not causing my symptoms. She told me to come back if symptoms don't go away or worsen; the next step would be to do a spinal tap to determine if I have some sort of infection.

I'm just so glad it's not a tumor. Happy 2012!

Update is that pressure is still intermittently there, still doesn't bother me, but most other symptoms have gone away because I am 99% sure I've pinpointed the culprit: to wit, my new MacBook screen.

Roughly, here is how it went:

*bought new Macbook in June
*symptoms began at that time
*worked nonstop on project on the new MacBook through December
*went through all the doctors, MRI, etc. in December
*went back to my old ibook in February because I removed all of its internet capacity (I'm a writer, and the Internet is the ultimate productivity destroyer (for me, at least))
*cessation of symptoms was almost immediate
*activation/provocation of symptoms almost immediate whenever I use the computer I'm on now (the new MacBook, which I use for email)

So I should qualify my initial response to your question: symptoms go away when I am not on this computer, which is now seldom.

I never went over this with doctor so I am self-diagnosing this, so take it for what it's worth, but then again, symptoms don't lie. Still no explanation for my bizarre reaction to the MRI, however.

Food for thought: I've been online, figuratively speaking, since 1996. I have wondered if I might be an example of what's going to happen to us as we all spend more and more time online, staring at screens...long-term effects, etc. Also wonder if it's the nature of the later-model screens, perhaps. I don't know. I can also say that if I look at my new BlackBerry screen in the dark my eyes really don't like it at all. Good luck to you, and hope my observations were of some use.
