Topirimate/ Topomax

I was wondering if anyone with recent experience taking Topamax for migraines would be willing to share? I have new Dr. who wants me to take this. I took it once before and was very moody but it did help with my migraines. Not sure with the recent death of my Mom I want to risk the depression I have been reading about. Any ideas?

I'm a migraine sufferer too, I've been the lab rat, I've bought the drugs, they didn't help, I've had my sanity questioned, I've been subjected to the frustrating diagnosis of, "I have no idea whats wrong with you, therefore you must either be at fault or crazy, maybe both." Sound familiar?

I got frustrated, when I get frustrated I take the problem apart, piece by piece. Hi Mike,

I had a migraine headache last Thursday and took home a "PVF" helmet that Dan let me try.

My migraines give me speckled vision, pinching head pains and make me nauseous. I don't get them often, mostly when I'm under a lot of stress, but when I do get them its hard to function. So I had to leave work early and I went straight home put the helmet on and went to bed. An hour later woke up with no headache, vision was clear and no more nausea. Amazing! Thank you!

Is anyone interested in experimenting on themselves with a device that has no known side affects, (the technology has been used in military flight helmets in excess of 20 million flight hours) it either helps or it doesn't, no risk either way. I spent my time and money (lots of both) on this to fix my own problem, now I'd like to help.

i'm sorry 2 my fellow migraine sufferers. For me Topomax absolutely does nothing for me, but i'm really happy for those of u that it works for. As of last week i finally saw a Neurologist. i have had appointments every month & in a couple of those months 2-appt.'s in a one month. Nevertheless, i canceled each one since last October...i know shame on me...Lol

So after i finally saw him he gave me a couple different samples 2 try (Maxalt, Relpax, & Cambia), Maxalt worked somewhat ok, then i had a massive migraine the following nite after trying the Maxalt, & i tried the Relpax. It took away the excruciating pain (nausea, couldn't handle the lights on, loud kids, etc), so i called the next day for a full prescription & they called it in immediately. But when i went into pick it up they only come in a 6-pack & even after insurance they were $43...that sucked...Lol   i didn't try the Cambria cuz the side affects were all intestinal stomach issues & with having my ileostomy i didn't want 2 even try it.

He then ordered regular x-rays on my neck cuz i absolutely cannot move it @ all & i mean @ all. i got the results 2-day & i have intensive arthritis. But he believes there is something else wrong along with that, so their scheduling me for a brain & neck MRI. i'm a little worried cuz i had a very large tumor removed years ago, & it has grown back a large size. So my prayers R hoping that portion is really ok.

 i've been on Flexeril for almost 2-yrs which does nothing for the pain. So, he gave me Baclofen 2 try. Its working barely for about 2-hrs out of the day :(

I'm new to this site. But I've was just diagnosed with migraines in Feb 2012. My neuro swears by topomax but after trying 50 mg in the morning and 100 mg at night, I began having very bad thoughts. I became very depressed, confused, memory loss and thoughts of giving up.

I made an emergency appt. and told him topamax is not for me.
