Fluorescent Lighting = Guaranteed Migraine. Has anybody found a med that has worked for them?

My worst migraine trigger, hands down, is fluorescent lighting. For me, exposure to fluorescent lighting guarantees a (acephalgic) migraine with an aura phase that won't go away until I am away from those nasty lights.

I know for many migrainuers this is not an uncommon trigger. I've tried numerous medications. Unfortunately none have worked so far. I've heard rose tinted (fl-41) sunglasses help some. Sadly, it has not been helpful for me.

Throwing out the caveat in advance that everyone reacts differently to different medications, has anyone found a medication that has helped them to address similar migraines.

So...I have a question on this, because I've been thinking about the lighting thing lately.

Do the CFL's that you can use to replace standard light bulbs have this same effect for you?? I friggin' have these ALL over my house :-/

I have a very similar issue with the long bulbs. In fact, I had some trouble with a colleague I was sharing my office with last year when he refused to use a lamp so I wouldn't have to suffer under the lights. Luckily I switched offices and the people I work with now are willing to using a halogen lamp with a dimmer switch. I'm "glad" to hear that others suffer from the same thing, though, because when I tell my colleagues that the lights give me migraines, they look at me like I have a frog on top of my head. It took me years to find the trigger and I was so happy when I finally discovered what it was. I'm sorry that I don't have any advice on how to cope, other than getting out of the lights and staying out of the bright sunshine. (My skin has an allergic reaction to warmth and sun, so I absolutely DETEST summertime and much prefer the long winter nights.)

Needless to say, I am now suffering from a terrible headache (I *think* it's a migraine - I'm going to post another thread) but it has nothing to do with the lights and everything to do with a cold.

I get absolutely horrible vertigo (with nausea), tension headaches, and migraines from fluorescents! I also have heart palpitations, sweaty hands and pits (but no where else), tensed muscles in head, face (jaw), neck, and shoulders.... it's absolutely the world feeling in the world and I CAN'T get away from the fluorescents! They've destroyed my life!! My brain goes stupid, I can't think properly or speak properly. I have confusion, slow reactions... I don't get it!? It all started following a injury to my head (an elbow hit me on the side of my head).

If ANYONE has a cure, or help, PLEASE let me know!! I have also tried fl-41 tinted glasses and they don't prevent it at all!! I feel like just giving up half the time.... no cure, Drs have no idea about it, I'm just screwed apparently.
