Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone else suffers from recurring thunderclap headaches? It all stared 5 days ago. I was washing dishing and out of the blue came the "worst headache of my life." As soon as I started to feel it coming, it hit with maximum power in only a few seconds. It left me on the ground withering in pain. Now I've had these episodes every day since. I did go to the ER, they did a CT and spinal tap, everything came up normal. Which is great! At least I know I'm not going to die from an aneurism. I now need to make an appointment with a Neurologist.

Has anyone else experienced this type of headache? I love to know I'm not alone. It's really scary to see your world go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds flat(referring to headache).

Just read your post, I have been looking for someone who had experienced a thunder clap headache. I feel so alone. Mine happened on Friday morning. I had to be rushed to A&E and ended up spending 2 days in hospital after having all the tests and LP. The LP's left me with a continous headache. And like you I have been given no explanation for this sudden exploding headache that left me crying on the bathroom floor. I have a letter to deliver to my GP and basically it details what treatment I had and said there was no follow up needed.
All my tests were negative so I don't expect to die from a brain bleed but it as left me very scared, emotional and unable to drive or indeed go out. The paracetamols and codiene just make me drowsy and dull the pain to bearable. Paracetamols with caffiene aleviete the LP pain but leave my stomache in a state.
I had a medical procedure with sedation by intraveneous medazolam on the Tuesday prior to the attack on the Friday and I think maybe the two are linked.
Hope that you are able to get it all sorted out, having two children you need to be in tip top health. At least I only have myself to look after with help from my husband. Hope this helps knowing that someone else out there is suffering.

Yep. After I had my 3rd child, thunderclap migraines started for me. The first time after giving birth that I had sex again, an orgasm brought on a thunderclap migraine. It was horrible and terrifying and awful. I've suffered migraines since I was 10, but never before has one like this. After that I was scared to have sex. Then a few weeks later, a sneeze triggered another one. Then turning over in bed triggered one. I also had MRI etc etc ...no one could find a thing. Then,after about a year,they went away. Now I have another new kind of migraine, vestibular. My neurologist believes that my head is cycling through different torture methods and may settle down. I am 40 and just praying for menopause. You are not alone. But you an have hope that this may end.

I am at last able to go out once more, it has been four weeks nearly since the headache happened. My Gp has refered me to a neuroligist. I have to say that I live in dread now of it happening again. I am due to fly to Ireland at the beginning of August and I shall be taking the codiene with me just in case the pressure in the plane sets it off again. The heat here in the UK is not helping, I am staying inside most of the day. I am in my early 60's and have so much of life yet to live therefore I am determined that some how I will get through this. Wishing you both all the best and hoping that you remain pain free.

I am new to this site. I have suffered from migraines for about 15 years. I had a cervicle laminoplasty and since then I have had 3 orgasm related migraines ,this is completely new for me. It is the one of the worst headaches I've experienced . I've read that it usually happens to men but I am a 52 year old woman. I too am afraid to be intimate with my husband for fear that it will happen again. Thankfully the headache slowly subsided within about an hour ,cold compress on the back of my neck helped. I have not gone in for tests because I am afraid of having to have a spinal tap
