Hi again having trouble posting lol. I too am addicted to fioricet. I have at times been up to 20 have tapered down to 8 and that's when the heart palpitations start. I have insurance 3 docs and online ordering to keep my supply intact. This is a terrible 5 yr addiction train I have been on. I actually 3 years ago got off them and made the biggest mistake of my life letting my doctor give another RX. It was horrible by the time I got home I already had taken 4. I am considering going to a psychologist I find when I am on high doses of this med it makes me mean and irrational and I get road rage. Not like me at all. This is scary medication and I just don't know what to do. Help needed in Missouri!

    Fioricet does not contain codeine. One tablet consists of butalbital 50mg, apap 325mg, and caffeine 40mg. You cannot exceed 4 tablets per day. If you are taking 20 tablets per day, you absolutely overdose it. Your Max apap dosage per day is 2000mg. You are talking more than 6000mg. Your liver has already been damaged. The first thing I think to have a doctor to check your liver problems then have a schedule to solve your addictive problem.

    Hi,

    I'm allergic to codeine, vicodine, aspirin and who knows what all else but 13 years ago at work I thought I was going to lay down and die and a girl friend gave me a fioricet, within 15 min my headache was feeling some better so I asked my neurologist for some. Now I have been on them for about 13 years. I would like to stop taking them as I take 2 a day. I just started doing 1 a day but I can't tell if my tension headache is real or from not having the second pill. I have taken up to 4 a day but that might be twice a year. Am I addicted? What is an addictive personality?

    nono Not all Fiorcet has codeine. Ive been on fiorcet for 11 years and never had a problem with side effects nor addiction to the med. The only side effect if any that bothers me is it makes me a lil sleepy/less energy, but it is GREAT for my migraine..only thing that really helps. I guess everyone is different and reacts differently. Id suggest checking into some kind of NA (narcotics annon) classes or substance abuse program or class if you feel you are addicted, as over time it will eat away at your stomach and no med is good for your insides when takin everyday, especially at high doses like with addiction.

    Fioricet and Fiorinal have a barbiturate in them which can be very as ducting. They also have caffeine and fi rivet has acetaminophen while fiorinal has aspirin. No codeine in either!

    Dear Sugar,

    I understand what you are going through, it's scary, I know because I did the same thing back on 2002. I was hooked up in Fioricet since 1999. One fine day I was so think about me as a junkie, because I could not quit by myself the use of this drug for migraines, and to make things worse, I did not have a job and neither had Insurance - so as I live in Miami, there is a hospital that I decided to go to and thru ER they check my blood to see the amount of butalbital I had it on my system and at the end of the day I was inside a detox center.

    If you can only say the city you live I might be able to research some good help for you.

    the detoxing was very hard but at least I got over that drug and also cleaned my system - Yes, I almost forget to tell you that I stayed in the hospital for 15 days, time to detox my system and than I got a job and insurance and started to see my doctor for continuously help. Because even after you got clean you can NOT use that drug anymore, because your body already has been addicted to it before. So if you want to talk about it, just drop a note and I will sure help you and share my experience with you as well. Because I imagine that  you must have a lots of question regarding the treatment and the withdraw, etc.

      Hello Cpcake, this drug is very good for migraines at the first time you start to take, after some time, it became addictive I sure know what you going through because I did it too. Seek an hospital that has a Detox center and go there - no fearing noting, just looking forward to get off this addiction. That's what I did myself.
      I hope you have the strength to go ahead and look for the hospital of your choice.
      I also would like to add something about behavior, I think that this drug have a different effect depending of the person, because when I was into it, I was normal - hold a job for years, drove around the city, I WAS VERY RESPONSIBLE, LIKE IF THE FIORICET WASN'T IN MY SYSTEM, it was hard to believe it. But once I get off at the first 3 months I was without patience and got frustrated very easy, but all this goes always with time.

      I have personally been prescribed Fioricet as well. This drug does not contain aspirin or codeine, or at least not the generic form. Fioricet contains acetaminophen, butalbital, and caffeine. Butalbital is the addictive substance in this drug.
