Just remembered something from my last neuro visit that I thought I should share. We were discussing medications and I gave him my two page list of everything I have taken. We started discussing the few things I have not tried and got on to the topic of Depakote...he said that he would never prescribe it for a female in childbearing years because of the chemical change on your body and that if becoming pregnant, unexpectedly, it has a high chance of serious damange to the fetus including miscarriage. He stated that he would only prescribe to women who have had a hysterectomy or are beyond child bearing years. Just thought I would share and see if anyone else has been told the same thing?
This doctor was also very serious about (female) patients on medication taking folic acid regularly in the event of an unexpected pregnancy as it would help to fight defects early on.
