Botox injections

I have been getting botox injections for migraines every 3 months for about 1 1/2 years now. I still take some preventative meds, and have "rescue" meds that I use maybe 1-2 times a month. Went from getting migraines daily to only a couple (much less severe) each month. I have gotten a few pretty nasty ones since starting the botox, but only because of strange circumstances, such as not eating for days and being dehydrated due to unrelated medical conditions.

The only negative from the injections, which I don't really even ever think about, is that I cannot raise my eyebrows. Who cares!?!

The injections themselves, 31 in all, feel like a series of quick tiny bee stings, maybe even less painful than that. They do them in your forehead, temples, scalp, and a few down your neck.

Takes only a few minutes, and then you are good to go. I always schedule my next injections before I leave my previous appt. Want to make sure to get them pretty much exactly every 3 months. Sometimes, it starts to wear off a week or two before I am due for my next injections, but even those headaches are not too bad.

SO worth it!!!!! I am thrilled that my doc recommended it. Has really changed my life!

Just be sure you get the insurance crap out of the way before your injections--they are rather pricey otherwise!!

I hope that insurance will cover it for you. I have heard that sometimes they require you to keep a "headache diary" for several months before getting the treatment. Might want to start keeping track of things such as date/time, severity, symptoms, triggers, things you do to treat it, basically anything you can think of to give them more info about what your headaches are like and what you have tried/are trying. Just a thought in case they require you to document them.

Like I said before, I have had no side effects (except the eyebrow thing), but everyone is different. It has truly been a life changer for me, and many people.

Botox injections are a pricey treatment for migraine if you don’t cover it with insurance. They are quite painful as well. I got about 16 injections for my treatment. After the injections it does provide relief to the headache but I heard the effect varies with each person. I have to repeat the process every four months. No side effects occurred yet. Just make sure the person treats you had proper botox training from a good institute to avoid any unwanted results.
