Morphine for Migraines?

Yes, I've been given morphine before to treat my migraines. Actually, it was in combination with some other drugs and I was hospitalized for many days. I find that Dilaudid is the only thing that really breaks my pain when I get reallly bad.

Hi everyone!! Yes me too, 2-3 times a year when my headache gets so bad that nothing helps i end up in the ER where they give me morphine injections and primperan it´s  to help me from not throwing up and stesolid that calms me down, i have been in many of the forums around the world and it seems to me that the ER´s there gives it to us migrainers when it´s getting really bad.

They call it for Migraine cocktail. And it has been given to me for 20 years 2-3 times a year, but here they dont give it for home use but sometimes for other pains i had it for 3 months for my nerve pain that i have in my head, but didn´t  wanted to use them after that beacuse i got so tired.

Morphine, as I understand it, can cause a nasty reaction for some headache sufferers. And in general it's more used for acute treatment in emergency situations. Several other painkillers can be just as potent but safer and more effective. One of the strongest of those (again used in the worse situations) is a fentanyl patch.

My Dr has me on a Drug called Avinza, it is a time released morphine. I started out at 30mg daily. I had a brain tumor removed about a year after the surgery I was getting migraines that would last 6months a couple days of freedom then the next migraine would begin. After countles meds and Drs I found a Dr that wanted to try this, I was a little worried at such a heavy narcotic but I dont have that druggie, hazy, disconnected, feeling that so many of the meds left me with. For the first time in years I felt like my old self.

They recently tried morphine on me in the ER and lo and behold...... I broke out in hives!
The docs in the ER have NO IDEA WHAT WE DO ON THE OUTSIDE TO PREVENT-OUR MIGRAINES!
I have been to several migraine specialists, Pain Care doctors, acupuncture. You name.
I have lost my job . Now when I talk to the np at the Pain Care Clinic, she sounds like she is giving up on me. IV dhe used to help, now I can’t use that. It has effected my liver function tests.
I have many allergies to the meds they have already tried.
Starting to not know where to turn..........
