Hi. My migraines are exactly as you describe yours to be. Mine start with that same weird feeling and my vision gets really strange. I can always tell I'm getting one because if I look at a word or a string of numbers, like the time on a digital clock, there are holes where letters or numbers should be. The last really bad one that I had started while I was driving. I couldn't read the numbers on the speedometer. This is called a visual aura and only a small percentage of migraine sufferers get it. Then I get numbness in one of my hands, especially in my thumb and numbness in my tongue. I also get really confused and have a hard time putting two words together to make any sense. For me, this lasts for about
30 minutes. Then the excruciating headache starts. You're right, it's terribly frightening. My last one was also scary because my 4 year old daughter was in the car with me when my vision went weird. Luckily, I could see well enough to get to the school where I teach Kindergarten. I wanted to pull over to the side of the road, but I was afraid I would end up in a ditch as my depth perception is affected. That day, my doctor put me on Amitriptyline. It's actually an anti-depressant, but it's also prescribed for migraines. I'm not at all depressed so I was a little confused at first. It kept me migraine free for 4 months. I had another migraine in December, but the vision problems, confusion, slurred speech, numbness weren't there. You might want to consider giving this medication a try. I hope you feel better.
