Hi there and welcome. I am diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines and therefore cannot take any of the migraine specific drugs such as triptans and ergots due to the stroke risk. My docs have tried the preventative medications with me - Inderal, Propanolol, Topamax, Amitriptyline, Nortriptyline, Midrin, Depakote, and MANY others.... When I am having a migraine the docs have tried torodol both oral and IV, Magnesium chloride IV, Thorazine oral, IV and suppositories, prednisone oral, dexamethasone IV, Depakote IV infusion, demerol IM and IV, morphine IV. The torodaol, thorazine, prednisone, dexamethasone, and depakote IV totally did not do a darn thing for me. the demerol and morphine helped for maybe a couple minutes at most. What the docs give me now is an IV cocktail of 25 to 50mg Phenergan for nausea and 100 to 200mcg Fentanyl for the pain. I stay at the infusion center for about
20 to 30 minutes after the meds are given then I go straight home take my Ambien and get to sleep before the fentanyl wears off. That usually works for me. I am going to a neurologist on Monday and will try to get the Fentanyl suckers so I don't have to go anywhere or get poked! I have NO veins left in my arms. It's either the suckers or a permanent access line for the infusions. I get migraines at least once if not twice every week and it really isn't fun to say the least!! Hopefully one of the preventative meds will work for you. but if not ask your doc about
the magnesium chloride ect.... Hope that helps! Let me know!
