Butterbur is an herb that has been used in Germany for 30 years to prevent migraines. It won't help once you get a migraine. If you go on the web you will find lots of information regarding butterbur. To reduce your number of migraines, Alexander Mauskop, M.D., director of the New York Headache Center in New York City, suggests taking 75 mg twice daily with food. You should feel results within a month. Continue taking until you've had a one-month period free of headaches, and then stop. Restart as needed.
CoQ10 -
Daily supplementation with CoQ10, a common nutritional supplement, has been shown to wipe out migraines in many people. It is also extremely effective for supporting heart health and preventing heart attacks. There is quite a lot of information on the web for this too.
A recent three month open label trial of some 30 subjects with a history of episodic migraine headaches, resulted in the conclusion that Coenzyme Q10 - CoQ10 appeared to be good for migraine prevention. Of the patients who completed the study, over 60% of the patients had more than 50% reduction in the number of days with migraine headaches.
In this migraine headache test, all participants knew that they were taking Coenzyme CoQ10. There were no adverse side-effects with the use of coenzyme Q10
I am going to the dr. on Wednesday to start getting off Effexor that I have been using for a preventative. It hasn't helped so I have been researching and want to try these. Vitamin B-2 can also help in the reduction of migraines. My dr. is all for what I want to try and since I have tried so many preventatives with no luck, I have nothing to lose but hopefully a few migraines.
