Scary "electrical" feeling headaches

I have been having electrical feeling head pains since Wed. The first time it hit the right side of my head and lasted about 2 seconds, then went away and continued to come and go for seconds at a time. It hurt so much the first time that it actually caused my right eye to quiver. Now the pains are hitting all different areas of my head. The pain last for a second but continues to happen every 10 to 20 minutes but on different areas. It feels like I am getting electricuted for a second.

I went to the doctor (twice) but they just told me to take advil which does not help. They said if it continues then they will start testing. Has anyone had something like this? These are very painful and literally stop me in my tracks each time they hit.

yes i have, It comes and goes like you said. I will have several days of these "shocks" and then nothing for a week and then several days again. I have told my doc about it and she was not concerned. She gave me no possible reasons for these. It is hard to just deal with something and not be concerned when it hurts so darn bad. It feels like lightning is stricking inside your head.

I am glad I am not alone, but still scared it is something serious since it has lasted over a week and is so painful. Last night I scratched the top of my head, then a "zap" came in the same location and the pain went all the way down to my feet. I am going to see a neuro on Wed and hope to have an MRI done to at least rule out anything too serious. How often do you get these pains, and when you are having them how many times a day would you say?

when I have them i have probably a "shock" about every 2-3 minutes but like I said, for me they come and go from day to day. I usually have them about 6-7 days a month. They are not predictible at all. I have kept a log of when I get them, what i am doing, and what medications I have taken that day. I do not have any simalarites in my log. its a mystery that my doc is not concerned enough to solve. I have had an mri but not on a day that I was having these shocks. It was just an mri to try to deterimine why i was having migranes, that is yet to be solved as well. Let me know how your appointment goes and if your doctor gives you any clues.

Regarding the electrical "zaps".... You might want to do a google search under "L'hermitte's sign" It sounds similar to what you are describing. Wendy

L'hermitte's sign, from what I've read on it, only occurs when you move your head forward towards your chest. This test is one of many, many tests done for Multiple Sclerosis.

I have actually had the electrical type shocks in my head several months ago that came and went for about 2 months and went away after being on Topamax for about 2 months. I haven't had a problem with this since then.
