Hi everyone,
I am a 26 year old professional with a good health and fitness record. Around 2 and a half years ago i had an impacted wisdom tooth removed. From that moment onwards I have had constant daily headaches confined to the side where the tooth was extracted. These are characterised by a dull, deep pain at the lower right side of my head, at the base of the skull, where the head meets the neck. From here radiating, sharp pulsating pain shoots upwards to the right temple, right jaw and behind my right eye. This can affect my vision in the right eye and feels like a circuit is giving out an electric shock every couple of seconds for the entire day. Sometimes the ticking noise of this circuit-like sound is worse than others but it does not seem to correlate to the level of pain I feel.
If you listen in closely it is possible to here the current-like ticking in the upper right hand side of the neck. I have seen many doctors, including neurologists, maxilofacial experts as well as dentists, phhysios and craniosacral therapists. I have had MRI, ERG and other visual tests. None has brought conclusive results. I have been tried on gabapentin, clonazepam and even a bite split but nothing has helped. The Drs have explored everything from TMJ to concluding that I have some form of tick but the truth is I have never felt any pain like this until the tooth extraction.
Has anyone experienced anything like this before? It is unbearable and there does not seem to be any fixed pattern to the general level of pain I experience each day, nor have I discovered anything that reduces the level of pain from the worse it can possibly be (around 9/10 where ten is debilitating and 5/10 which is the best it ever is).
