Migraine Update 6 weeks & counting

Finally had an appointment with the neurologist today after countelss meds have failed and chiropractor has been unable to fix me.

Basically I have muscle damage along with the whiplash. During the accident my muscles in my neck were stretched, and my occipital nerve was irritated and is inflamed which is causing my migraine, neck pain, and inflamation.

He went ahead and gave me an occipital nerve block on both sides. I have no relief yet, in fact I feel worse, but have heard that it could take a few days before I feel relief.

Is anyone familiar with Occipital Nerve Blocks? How long does it take to feel relief? How long does the relief last?

I hope so much this works, because I am going on 6 weeks of constant agonizing pain.

Sorry I missed this, my puter has been down. How are things going? If after one week you have found no relief the block has not worked I am afraid!!!!

The nerve block was on Tuesday morning and it is now Saturday and I have had no relief. If anything I feel worse. My Occipital Nerve area is still irritated. I hope there is still hope to fix this! I go back to the neuro on Tuesday so I hope he has a back up plan. He specializes in headaches so I am sure he has other treatment plans. I am getting depressed again because I was sure this would work for me.

It is still beyond me how such a minor vehicle accident can cause such horrible and lasting pain.

Don't know if this will help...but, I have found the nerve blocks not to work either unless he/she does it without the cortozone. For some reason the sterroid only seems to make it worse. It also hurts worse for a day or so with the cortozone. If you get another one try it with just the lidocane. Make sure you touch the area first and point out exactly where the most severe point is to your doctor and have him/her inject it right on the spot. If he/her actually hits the nerve you will feel it!!! but trust me if he/her actually hits the nerve you will get relief for several weeks. I have had about five different injections now and hated everyone of them but, that is when I seem to get the best result.
