migraine causing lesions?

Hello all,

I'm new to migraine forum but have been active in the MS forum for a couple of months. I am 32 and started experiencing major symptoms about two years ago. Was too busy with two little kids to make it to the doc. and finally things started getting really bad. about four months ago I arrived at a neuro who gave me a "working diagnosis" of Multiple Sclerosis but sent me out to UCLA for consultation.

My MRI shows at least 10 "lesions". The weird thing now is that the head of Neuro-mapping at UCLA thinks that I may be having silent migraines. I'm not sure if she means iin addition to - or that's what she thinks is happening total. She said that the lesions aren't characteristic of MS but that my other symptoms sound like Migraine.

So here are my questions:

Anyone familiar with the "migraines as a degenrative condition" idea?
Anyone have lesions?
Anyone have numbness and tingling that lasts for weeks?
Anyone have such bad brain fog that they forget entire days and can't operate a vehicle?
and a whole host of other debilitating (including loss of bladder control for 2 days)
Anyone so weak in some extremities that they "drag"

Any insight would help. I'm afraid that I'm being lumped into the "we have a whole new way of looking at migraines" thing. And - I've only ever experienced 3 headaches that are off the chart in my whole life - thought I was having a stroke. facial paralysis and the works.

Hi angielov,

I am sorry to hear that you are going through all this. It sounds to me as though there may be more than migraine involved here! Although having said that, Hemiplegic migriane can produce stroke like symptoms that can be quite scary unless you know what is happening!! These symtoms can include loss of power on one side of the body, facial numbness/tingling etc

I have not understood migraine to be a degenerative condition as such, although it can worsen for a while and sometimes it can seem as though the older you get the worse it gets.

The best person to talk to about this is a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist. I hope you can get some answers soon, please let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your response. I will find out more on the 23rd when I see the neuro again.

I have heard that Migraines can cause lesions, have you ever heard this?

Also you mentioned Hemiplegic Migraines, how long can those symptoms last for?

I have heard that there is a connection with migraines and lesions, that would be a good question for your Neuro!!!

From what I understand I believe the symptoms of Hemiplegic migraines can last for some days, but they are very individual!

There are one or two members here that suffer with Hemiplegic Migraines and hopefully they will be along at some point to offer their point of view!!!
