I have been having migraines since I was 18, I am 41 now. Last year the migraines became so severe that I had to quit my job. I spend 4-5 days a week in bed because of migraines. The first clinic I went to gave me meds that did not work, but told me to keep taking them, and exercise. Who can exercise when most of the time you are trying not to move. The clinic sent me to this neurologist who gave me Imitrex, and said I would be good as new in 8weeks. He did not give me a return appointment. I took the Imitrex, and it speed up my heart rate so high I passed out. I found another dr and she put me on new meds that doesnt work. She sent me to a neurologist that put me on meds that doesnt work. He said he would try new treatment the next month, but his off called and rescheduled the appointment for another 3 months. My GP thinks that it will be alright just go back to work and keep taking the meds. Well thats what she sent to Disability so my claim was turned down. Now I have just hired a lawer to fight the claim. This has only made my depression worst. Anyone have any advise, because I havent been sleeping, which is making the migraines much worst. I dont even leave the house anymore unless I am going to the dr. I am really at the end of my rope and dont know what to do. Please HELP! sad

Hi Migraine Sucks,

Welcome to Healing Well. Sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time!!! You do not say what meds you have tried other than Imitrex!! Have you ever tried a preventative med at all?? If so which one(s)?? The other meds that you have tried have they given you any relief at all??

I think it is apalling that you have been put off for another 3 months, you need to get yourself to a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist as soon as possible to help you sort this out!!!

I am currently on Depakote, Phenergan, Medrol, Elavil, Synthroid, loratadine, atenolol, ferrous sulf. past medicines that did not work is-------------- imitrex, fioricet, inderal, fiorinal/codene. The medicine I am on is not working. I expressed this to my doctor. I am considering going to another dr, and neourologist. Any advise on choosing a better dr, and on any of the meds thats may help?

what helped me most, even though I still get migraines, is getting off so many meds. I was on a list full, felt crazy, sleepy all the time, and they didn't work so I just quit them, slowly.
I would suggest Topamax if you can handle the side effect, or not get them. It worked great but I had bad cognitive effects.
I now only take 3 meds, depression related mostly, and have fentanly suckers for the kickers that won't go away. I get 30 for 3 months, so I can use one every 3 days, which is about how many h/a I get.

Well I am looking for another dr. I have stated to my dr. that all the meds that I am on just have me walking around like a zombie. Drugged up, but still have these awful migraines. My depression is getting worst also. I really do feel like I am at the end of my rope. I think I am going to find another dr who understands migraines better.

I have had migraines since I was very young, and so did my husband. Now I’m 52 years and my headaches are getting better. I have been on 1. cafergot - from ages 11 - 40 years, they worked very well, I do know some other people who did not do well on this drug and said it was POISON, I did give some to my husband when we were dating and he did not do well on them, now I take Maxalt, it works well with 2 Excedrin migraine pills along with the maxalt. A migraine headache (any headache for that matter) has to be caught right at the beginning. Don’t let it get full blown because you can take as many pills as you want and it won't go away. You will just get a really upset stomach. From what you write, it seems to me that you are very stressed in general; a lawsuit must be very stressful too. Getting off all these drugs and taking a week perhaps in a healing center, a place where there is a structured day, with healthy activities like exercise, meditation, healthy meals, quiet time, perhaps a long weekend away might kick start your healing. I am wishing you the best. Oh, one other thing, you mentioned you were on synthroid; these headaches could be from a hormonal imbalance. I have had my thyroid out and I am also on synthroid, I am checked twice a year to see if my dosage is correct.

Thanks for the advise. Have appointment with another dr this week. Hope I get better results with less meds.

Hi there.....Could you tell me where most of your pain is on or in your head? Do you have pain anywhere else ? I hope to help you because you need friends and that is what we are all here for...reaching out. I hope to hear from you soon and I will pray for you tonite. Oakley

Pain sometimes on the left side of my head. Other times it is both sides. Stiff neck. When I catch migraines my hand sometimes go numb. Wear shades all the time. Light, noise cant take.

                        Oh how I wish I could speak to you on the phone to discuss your problems. You are at a place that I have been for a good 20 years. I fought for disability for about 5 years before finally gettin' it. I do know some tricks to gettin' approved for disability. I also am real familiar with methods of treatment of migraines. From every kind of doc to every type of med. Medical, natural and everything in between. First thing is in 20 years I've found only one doc that truly believed what I was tellin' him. His name is dr. klos and he believes that noone should live in constant severe pain (suicidal-pain, is what I call it). I actually had to stop seein' him a few years back because he accepts cash only and livin' on disability does not allow for too much of anything. Luckily my sweetheart of a man has just recently told me that he will cover the monthly costs for me to go back to him. Enough about me for now. Please, let's talk, if nothin' else through e-mail. I feel like I just might be able to at least help guide you a little bit. It's a strange thing, I came to this site to find help for myself and along with my quest for personal answers, I'm findin' it just as therapeutic to think that I just might be able to help someone else out.
