Spinal tap instructions?

Hi everyone,
I'm going in for a spinal tap this week in order to find the cause for my over 2 month long migraine. I've never had one before, and the doc's office was supposed to call to give me instructions, but I haven't heard yet. I basically know what the procedure is like, but I have some questions. It's being done on an outpatient basis, so how long will I be there? Any instructions beforehand (prep, meds I should or should not take, eating, etc.)? How long do you have to lie down afterwards? Am I restricted in activity once I get home? I have two young kids and I need to know if I need help with them and for how long.

I know everyone may have different experiences, but I would love some advice.

I too am about to get an lp. I think they will ahve you lie down for a few hours after amd tell you to do the same thing at home. I would try and stay as flat as possible for 3-5 days after or you risk gettting a spinal HA and boy are they nasty, I should know I have had one for the last 6 months. What do the think is the cause of your HA?

I definitely don't want a spinal HA on top for everything else!
The doc found stenosis in a blood vessel in my brain on the side where my HA is. He's doing the LP to see if pressure may be a cause or at least related to the stenosis. I don't know possible treatments yet - we'll talk after the LP.
How is your HA?
