New to the boards, but really could use some help.
I have been having really bad incapacitating type of headaches, sometimes so bad that I wind up vomiting.....the only time I get some relief is if I am laying down, but even that does not totally relieve them. I have had a cat scan and MRI with contrast that were all normal.

I went to a neurologist last week, he put me on a muscle relaxer and an anti-inflammatory, it seemed to help for a few days, well then yesterday I was at work, and it was so bad, I had to leave work and today it is really bad. I feel so frustrated I am tired of feeling sick and weak all of the time, I am sure my family and friends are sick of it also. I am 39 year old woman.

Any advise would be really appreciated, I really need some relief.

Call the neuro and tell him it is not working. He may be able to put you on something better. So far, I've found topamax is best for me.

Hi and Welcome!!!

I hate to hear that you are having such a hard time right now! I would definitely call your doctor and let them know what worked and what didn't. You may want to start writing things down (type of pain, time, duration, severity of pain, what you ate, how much you slept etc...) Sometimes you can find patterns of things that make the headaches worse or better!

Let us know what the doctor says.

I have another question, have any of you had a spinal tap before, I had one a month ago, because I went to the ER for my headache, it turned up all clear, but then for 5 days after I had the worst headaches of my life and had to just lay in bed. My neurologist is thinking that I need to have a blood patch, because of the spinal tap, has anyone had any experience with this?

I had a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) last year and afterwards the headache I had was horrendous and I had to spend six days in bed and I was given two caffeine infusions. Eventually it did settle. However it was a totally different type of headache, meaning the type of pain itself was different not necessarily the severity to what I am used to.

I hope you find something to help you very soon.
