Hi, I'm new here, and feeling helpless!
I've been having migraines for 15 years, I am 31 years old. Been bumped from dr to dr who either didn't believe me or gave me meds that didn't mean much, like Tylenol #3. about 4 years ago, a new family doc finally tried me on inderal (didn't work), then topamax 100mg/day (which did) and took me down from about 11 migraines a month (not counting regular headaches), to maybe 2. We also tried Imitrex, which I reacted to by having this weird feeling all over my body of "aching, burning" I don't know how else to describe it, but either way, my doc didn't want me to use it again (& neither did I), and said that all abortive meds will act the same, because they are made the same way? Well, about a year and a half ago, the topamax started being less and less effective until 6-9 months ago, I'd say I was back to where I was before with massive amounts of migraines. He recently increased me to the max dosage of topamax about a month ago to 200mg/day, but it just doesn't seem to be working, unless working means I'm more emotional, and foggy. He said my only other option is Depakote, which I've heard awful things about. He won't give out pain meds, which he said would cause problems, I can't have aspirin related products because I have crohn's disease and it can cause a flare. I wonder if my DR has enough experience to know if he's looked into enough options? Anybody? I'm so tired of crying on the bathroom floor, or not being about to take care of my family. I am sooo lucky that I am a stay at home mom and don't have to call off of work or something. Does anyone know if there is a good doc is Central Columbus, OH to recommend? Other treatments?
Thanks!
