Topamax, plus NSAID?

After unsuccessful use of triptan derivatives (Zomig, Mexalt), beta blockers (Metaprolol) and ultimate NSAID, Naproxen (250mg), giving really GI side effects, I am on 100mg of topamax. Its been 4 weeks since I started topamax and one week since I am on 100mg. Frequency of migraine has certainly reduced but still they do show up at least once a week, as opposed to once in 3 days in the past. I have been taking Ibuprofen (400mg) or Piroxicam (20mg) alternatively to counter those headache episodes.

I talked to my neurologist and she said, its ok to take supportive medication to counter headache episodes. What my question to other topamax users is, how did topamax relieved your headache? Did it relieve completely? or are you taking supportive medication?

I am asked to continue topamax for a month and then call back. The neurologist will assess the situation after a month.

I'm sorry no one got back to you. How did you fare in this matter? I am taking Topamax 400mg and Maxalt 10 mg as needed and Wellbutrin for depression. Topamax works great for me. Topamax is the generic version for me, but Maxalt is not generic version. Wellbutrin is generic version. If my headaches are still bad after Maxalt and don't go away I end up trying to lay down in a cold room and put a wash cloth over my head. But since I have taken Topamax though, my headaches HAVE reduced dramatically that I really couldn't begin to describe it. I just am so thankful. I only have migraines now and typically get them around what is my menstural migraines really or if I have more stress than usual or if I don't get enough sleep. I try to keep my migraine journal up to date for when I go back to see my neurologist, but I've been poor at it and mainly try to write down when my headaches are so bad. And mainly write down when I've noticed the symptoms such as the menstural, stress, or lack of adequate sleep. If you think of any other questions, let me know please.

Your situation seems worse than me. Meanwhile, I did MRI scan of my brain just to be sure and it came out to be normal, so I have no idea of root cause of my migraine and being a man, can't blame to monthly cycles.

My current Topamx dose is 150mg and I am taking migraine preventive medication called as Flunarizine (Doubt its available in the US) and after quitting my job in Dec, my stress levels are super low, so my migraine frequency has reduced drastically but as and when the attack shows up, I have no alternative to Ibuprofen 400mg.
I did notice though when I was taking a course of Prednisolone, I had no migraine attack for a month, so I suspect that migraine has to do with some sort of inflammation.

I am also maintaining a journal of my migraine and now that I have moved to the US, I hope to find a neurologist that really listens to me and medicates me appropriately.
