Hi,
I am 60 yrs old & have had chronic daily migraine for 50 years. The most important thing to do is to identify & eliminate your triggers. For most people that is alcohol, especially red wine; any aged cheese; chocolate; nuts; yogurt; MSG; all artificial sweeteners, etc. For me unfortunately garlic & tomatoes also fall into the "thou shall not eat" column. Also one whiff of men's cheap cologne will set one off as will barometric swings. I suggest you keep a daily migraine diary. I suffered through every kind of medication you can name to control the pain or stop the migraines. For pain I started with Tylenol #3, moved to Fiorinal, Darvocet (which has been pulled by the FDA), Stadol NS, etc. I even had Botox treatements 4 times but received no help. To stop the Migraines from happening I tried Topamax, other anti-epeleptic drugs, calcium channel blockers, etc.. I went through one full year of chiropractic treamtements and accupuncture, too.
Anyway, I suggest you research on the internet and try everything until you come up with something or a combination of things that work for you. DHE -45 shots help me, but sometimes makes me sick to my stomach. Ice yourself first in the area that you inject to lessen the pain. Also try laying on ice packs on the throbbing part of your head. I have a bell that I ring to get my hubby to bring me ice packs in the morning. How spoiled am I?
What really works for me is Medical Marijuana. It is legal to purchase & use with a prescription in my State. A friend with severe fibromyalgia suggested I try it for my migraines. It knocks the pain dead but you can't drive under the influence & I can't imagine working under the influence. (I'm retired). But on those really bad days, or when you need to be pain free for a day, it works like a charm for me.
Best hopes that you find your magic bullet!
