I have not been taking the Depakote. Which means I'm either delaying things, or simply refusing to take the medication. I haven't decided yet. The problem for me is that Depakote has a very similar side effect profile to Topamax--not identical but similar enough in terms of causing "mental slowing," apathy, and drowsiness.
I'm a tough person to motivate to begin with--I found that those side effects made my normally unproductive state even worse, and I wasted half the summer doing nothing. I imagine the results would be very similar with Depakote. Some people may be offended by my avoidant tendencies, but just remember if I had a chronic pain problem or a chronic migraine, I'd see things the same way and would be willing to follow the doctor's advice to the letter. Really, it's all relative. I feel my functionality is worse with the medication, than without it.
That doesn't mean I won't try any other medications, though. I'm currently looking at Neurontin (Gabapentin) and considering trying that instead, as I have another doctor invested in my case.
