Hi, I am new here also, have had migraines for 8 years. Have been through all the tests from MRI to ct scans to lumber puncture to thryroid and then more. Have been on most preventative meds that I know of and Also even got to where my doctor give me dilaudid pills but they didnt work, only the ER shots or IV's will work. They keep telling me in the ER that my doctor needs to do something since I went to the ER 50 times for these last year. I do not do this unless my toridol shots dont work at home which is often. I have false teeth and when I eat sweet things immediatly I get a pain shooting through my jaw area like there is sensitive nerves or something and I dont know what or if this has anything to do with it. I had dentures since I was 18 and I am 37 now. I dont get migraines as soon as this happens but usually awake with a knowing that I will have a migraine later in the day. I am on disability for these and I want to get them taken care of since I am a LPN nurse and miss working. Any help or knowledge of what helps other peoples migraines would be great. Thanks

Also, try avoiding MSG. Do an Internet search - this substance goes under 43 secret names. There is no law requiring it to be listed on products, so it is hard figuring out whether it is present. When I stopped eating at most restaurants and at regular grocery stores - both have tons of MSG- my migraines greatly diminished. I had migraines every day for three years at one point. Now I pretty much only eat from health food stores and read every label.

I can only re-iterate what has been said about the Headache Clinic. Get yourself to see a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist, as an ordinary Neurologist doesn't know that much about headache. Seems that you are not too far away, even if it is still some distance it would be well worth the effort. I have to travel to my Headache Specialist and have not regretted it!!!!!

Btw the MSG comes under a number of guises that we can often ignore and think what we are buying is ok!! For example:

Hydronated vegetable oil
Flavour enhancers
E621

There are more, but I make the rule of thumb that I do not get anything unless it says only natural flavours or colours, or unless I am absolutely confident there is no other disguise for MSG there!! When a product says 'rich gravy' even if it is not listed MSG is usually present!! Most gravy mixes have MSG in them and so does chinese food!!!!
