It sounds like the occipital nerves (greater and lesser) and trigeminal nerve (various projections) are "acting up." This is all fairly typical with migraine.
Could the a herpetic outbreak have triggered the migraine? It's possible. The treatment would still be the same (maybe.... maybe.... your first choice preventative medications would be slightly different, if you even decided to go that route. With only 2 migraines a year, preventatives aren't really warranted.).
It's wonderful if you can find the trigger of your migraine. Sometimes it's really evident, other times you won't find it and sometimes it takes years. Are you seeing a GP or a neuro. If the former I would make an appt. with a neuro. After three weeks it's time to take try to break the migraine.
