Hello there,
For some time now I have a series of symptoms that could possibly suggest some sort of migraine condition. I'm not expecting direct answers to my problem with this post but thought I would share my scenario in case anyone from experience could add in anything to help figure out what it is that I might have.
In January of this year, I went on an overseas trip with some friends which involved a lot partying. Normally I don't drink, but on this occasion I thought it would be best to celebrate our time off with some pretty heavy drinking nights during the tour. Since then, in fact, since the first night, I have had this strange, out of bodily experience that I could only infer as being a migraine condition. I'm no doctor, but after experiencing months of this condition, countless hours in doctors offices, I'm beginning to think that my holiday has had a serious effect on me neurologically.
Everyday I wake up , feeling as if I am hungover. I can only describe it as being as if I have a headache, non-stop all day, subsiding slightly only in the nightime hours. One of the most obvious things about this "hangover" is I feel confused all the time. For example, imagine a messy desk. If I attempt to go and clean this messy desk at say 11am in the morning on a bright sunny day, I struggle to clean it without some form of confusion, forgetting where things are on the desk, where my hands are and what they are touching. If I clean the same desk at 9pm, I can do it with ease, as I feel like my mind is clean. Walking in public places makes me feel confused as well. It's like I'm looking at things but my mind isn't processing/thinking about what it sees. Is this typical of a migraine? Both short and long term memory is a problem. I don't know if this has to do with this "constant headache" that I'm experiencing or I'm just loosing my mind! Everything feels as if it is too bright, but at the same time, not bright enough. This might be hard to understand but hopefully someone on here might know what I'm talking about with this one.
I'll continue on with the symptoms. I wake up on many days with severe dizziness and it takes a few hours for it to go away. My balance, when I turn on my feet, run, jog etc is affected. When I try to focus my eyes on something and hold my head still, it feels as if my head is so tense that it is about to explode and I experience some vertigo alongside of this.
Now back to this constant headache that I feel. It's not like I feel pain 24/7, but whenever I shake my head slightly I get that pain that you would normally experience during a headache. I experience it mainly across my forehead like a tension headache and under my left eyebrow. As well as this, I do experience migraine attacks (I think it's migraine) with pain in these areas roughly once a week and lasts a good 8-12 hours. Visually, I am experiencing a rare phenomenon known as "Visual snow". I'm sure some of you have heard of it before. I've researched about this and it seems like there is no cure. God knows what can be done about this.
So far, I have had a blood test, a CT scan and an vertebral artery ultrasound. All three came back negative. My doctor initially thought it was sinus as I also have a clogged nose a lot of the time too; my ears also pop alot. I'm now scheduled to go to a neurologist in two months (they are quite hard to get into in my area).
As a result of all this I'm now suffering from a mild case of depression, having to drop down on my uni classes and having weird feelings of depersonalization/derealization. My question to all of you is, does this sound like a migraine condition of some form? Is it possible to treat something like this and feel like normal again? Are there any non-prescription drugs that I could take in the meantime that could relieve symptoms? The visual snow thing gets me down the most as it sounds like no one has ever been cured of this. Having a headache from the moment you wake up until your head hits your pillow is like living through a personal hell. I'm sorry if this post has been an eye saw and I that I may just be reiterating what is posted on this board by people daily, but I just want to have a push in the right direction to try and diagnose this beast.
Thanks.
