Seasonal Migraine Disorder

I suffer from seasonal migraine disorder that I inherited from my mother. I have had it for 18 yrs and have tried every treatment there is. Right now I'm trying topomax as the old treatment (Elavil) has become ineffective. The migraines can typically last for 8 to 12 weeks. This disorder has cause me to retire early and when they say migraines give you a maybe life, well, it is not a life at all. Does any one out there have any treatment that has worked? I have tried drugs, Oxygen, acupucture, chiropractic, holistic, and even have submerged my head in ice water till out of breath! Any ideas? I now know, I'm not alone.

Health wise, I am 58 have had 18 orthopaethic surgeries for degeneritive joints and need 5 more, other that that I'm great! No head trama. These type of headaches run in my mother's side of the family. My aunt is 82 and still gets them. She can recall her great grand mother having them as well as her grand mother! Most Seasonal Migraine Disorder suffer in the fall, I do not now why, the specialist said 99% of SMD suffer in the fall. On another aspect, do you find concentration hard after a headache?

I've made a decision, I'm getting off this medication. It makes me feel creepy. The side effects are more than I can bare. I will call the specialist in the morning so that I can do it safely. I find feeling like a zombie 24/7 undesirable. I would rather suffer through the headache season. Or maybe it is time to try another headache specialist. Topomax not the miracle drug for me!
