Your kind help in Diagnosing the pain I feel

Hello all and thanks for trying to help a guy in pain :)

I wish to describe to you what i feel, since yesterday evening. though i almost never get headaches ( like once a year, for 10 seconds then it is gone), I have a strange head ache and I don't know why or what is it (migraine? normal headache or something else).

I hope by describing it you could assist me in identifying it.

The place feels like a dry wound - The kind that you feel some several days after a good bump between your head and a wall or similar. If I don't touch it, it doesn't hurt. But when I do, I feel a pain, like a few days old bump (no real bump or a swelling).
It's location is in the cross-way of the left ear (go straight up with your hand) and the left eye (go straight back).

The worst thing is that I get an occasion surges of pain (like every minute or so, some time less frequent).
The surge feels like an intense pain in the exacts location of the "old pump pain" that lasts for a fraction of a second.

I can also mention that all the left side, below and along the ear is also sensitive. not much but more then usual.
Can you please tell me what it is? or help me identify what I'm experiencing?

There is a nerve in that area, fairly prominent. See the links below.

Although there are disorders involving that nerve, called Trigeminal Neuralgia and Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia, these are relatively rare and produce intense pain over a wider area than you describe. There are treatments for these conditions.

This doesn't mean you have these conditions, but may have something irritating the nerve. I wonder if you may have an issue with your jaw, such as Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ)?

Visit your doctor, and if there is any chance it's from TMJ, a dentist may be able to help as well.

My neurologist diagnosed my migraines with Trigeminal Neuralgia. I had seen and was tested for TMJ too. My migraines tho felt like and onset in that trigeminal nerve, it was radiated full blown now to the back of the head, jaw and ear, and behind and around the eye. The pain is always on one side, the right side.

So thinking the migraine is vascular the trigeminal nerve could possibly be a cause.

But now that I'm off on dealing with food triggered allergy migraines, I'm wondering can food allergies cause vascular contractions. Just a thought!!!

Good question about the vascular constrictions, but it does. MSG was an assured migraine for me, I only got the visual type, a scintillating scotoma, and very seldom a headache. From what I've been told and read, vasoconstriction causes the visual migraines, and dilatation causes the headaches. Apparently mine would constrict but not over dilate. Also, I lost my vision twice in one eye, just briefly, had all kinds of tests, but they all came out negative. I was angry at the time, apparently I underwent strong vasoconstriction in my eye and out it went. Also had a Balisar Migraine once, wouldn't recommend one to anyone, it's also attributed to vasoconstriction. I received many medical tests after that as well, CT, CT with Contrast, and an MRI with contrast.

We should always have a doctors exam after anything weird like brief loss of vision or the profound effects of a Basilar Migraine.

Hi JunRulz, thanks for your reply. I normally have some light sensitivities but no aura. Just pain!!! I think that nuero doc misdiagnosed me at the time, I was new to getting my migraines, he did a CT scan and came up with that. We did drug therapy which turned into chronic migraines for me, so I stopped the drugs altogether. Think I was getting serotonin syndrome. Well, I ditched that doc, lol. He wasn't doing me any good.
Best result was putting myself thru finding the triggers in my diet. MSG and most additives I now stay away from. But then there are the days I will still get a migraine for reasons unknown.
Right now I'm looking at vitamin deficiencies. I'm anemic, have low B, and blood in urine during last test (tested with no resulting reason for it), also low D and been diagnosed with having GERDS. What else I'm not sure. I'm getting all my records transferred to an internist right now and I hope she can help me pull all this together. She is also a migraine sufferer, so this might be right.
Not saying vasoconstriction may not be part of the migraine trigger. Like this morning I woke up with a migraine and neck and arm pain. Was a short migraine and I was able to rub it out and stretch the muscle in the neck and head. In fact, I have to stretch the neck muscles every morning due to pain and stiffness. This rubbing on trigger points and stretching only works sometimes.
