neuorlogist or family physician

i have been suffering from migraines for five years now only after six months of getting migraines did i go seek medical attention. at that time i went to my family physician i was going to him for a while and getting extremely irritated with the fact that he did not have enough knowledge or ambition to find me medication that  actually help me when i get a migraine. so only after my boyfriend coaching me did i go to his neuorlogist since he suffers from hemeplegic complicated migraines and he on many occasions seen me getting a migraine attack thought it would be beneficial for me to seek better medical help.

when i actually went to his neuorlogist the doctor pulled me off the medications i was on and tryed something different that does help my migraines.

I am fairly new to this group but have found tremendous support in the short time I have been visiting. I have had migraines all of my life. They went away for 10 years in my early adult life and came back about 10 years ago. They have been regular for the past five years and severe for the past year.

I have a family doctor who does his best to help me and seems very knowledgeable, but like Pegasis says knows a little about a lot. I asked him to refer me to a neurologist which he did and when things didn't improve I went back and now see him every 3 months. Sometimes I struggle with my neurologist because he doesn't know me as well as my family doctor so when he prescribes a treatment he prescribes a treatment for the "norm" which I don't always fit into. I will often run things by my doctor and we may modify them slightly to fit me personally.

I find it works well with my neurologist and family doctor supporting each other.

Keep checking in here. People have lots of good ideas and support. Sometimes just knowing that other people out there are going through the same thing you are makes it that much better.
