I am fairly new on here, registered a while ago but haven't made any posts yet.

I've been dealing with daily chronic severe ear pain for just over a year and a half. Its been rough, I'm only 21 years old and I've had to deal with this so a while now, and I've had to put my life on hold. I've been seeing doctor after doctor, they have done all kinds of testing with it all coming back normal. I've tried a bunch of different medications with no help. All of my local doctors have given up on figuring me out.

My Neurologist thinks it could be some atypical migraine, or something along those lines. And he has referred me to Jefferson Headache Center in Philadelphia, he has only had good things to say about it. And he was a student of one of the doctors there, I sadly don't know which. And now finally after months of waiting, I have my appointment there with Dr. Young this coming Tuesday.

And I'm just a nervous wreck about it, for all kinds of reasons. I'm already a nervous wreck seeing doctors I don't know. And just, I don't know what to expect really from this doctor. I don't know what he will want to try, the timeline of how to do it. And it scares me a lot. I have this bad feeling that they might not be able to help me, and that isn't making this any easier on me.

My one main question is, if they do decide to admit me. Would it be right away? Or not for a couple weeks? That is my biggest worry lately.

I also would just appreciate anything anyone has to offer about going there. Any advice or suggestions to make things easier.

Welcome to HealingWell.

Based on the series of normal tests you've had thus far, it's not very likely that you'd be admitted to the hospital based on an initial visit. At this point you have no reason to suspect you'd be admitted at all.

Have you had an MRI, do you have hearing loss, did the doctors suggest a possible cause?

Here's a page that discusses the complexities of diagnosing ear pain. When you read it, there are a few more serious causes and many non-serious causes. Since you've been seen by a doctor and received tests, your doctor has likely ruled-out the more serious causes, don't dwell on them.

welcome to the forum. I see a neurologist at Jefferson. I have daily migraines and have cluster headaches. Suffered since High School. I am 53 now.

My clusters have been reduced to about 2 a month and my migraines are maintained to about a level of 2-4 on the pain scale.

Besides Jefferson, I would only recommend John Hopkins in Md.

You may try a nutrisionist. When I changed my diet to whole foods, no processed foods. No soda, caffaine, artificial anything, I became I lot better and headaches eased noticably.

Yes it is hard to change your eating habits this much, may even be more expensive at times. You will get use to drinking water with lemon, lime and orange in it. However, you will feel the benefits from it in your head.
