Just a quick background. I have been taking 360mg of Codeine daily for just under 20 years since I had j-pouch surgery. The reason is that it has been the only thing to help keep my digestive tract in order so that I don't have 2 dozen or more bowel movements a day.

The past couple of nights I have had terrible migraine-type headaches, pretty much solely on the left side of my head. Last weekend I had headaches and vomiting. That went away after a couple of days. I went to see a doctor at a local clinic. The doctor did some observations, eye tests etc to try and rule out anything like an aneurysm or stroke etc. Now the headaches are severe, but there has not been any nausea these past 2 nights. I have not had any fever or cough or other symptoms that would give me concern about having Coronavirus.

I have contemplated going into the ER tonight (almost 11pm here) but given the situation right now with Covid-19, I'd prefer not to. If I do go, I would prefer to go tomorrow during the day. I have a bottle of Morphine Sulphate I was prescribed a few months ago. Would there be any harm in taking the dosage my Physician had recommended a few month back to ease the pain? I am tempted to take a dosage to get through this agony. Any suggestions on this???

Hi Arncap, sorry to read about the headaches. Personally I would not add the morphine, this would put you at risk of over dosing with the two narcotics. You need to see your GP if possible, some are doing phone consults.This may or may not be a migraine, only a dr can determine this. If the headaches continue, ask to be referred to a neurologist for a consult. If you have a pharmacy with a drive up window, if you call them in advance most likely they will get something off the shelf say an OTC treatment. I have done this myself.

I do understand your concerns about ER given Covid-19. ER's are not the place to go for pain medication, they tell patients up front, we do not give or prescribe opioids.

Hi Arncap

I have morphine as a PRN. in tablet form , normally the PRN is tylonel 4.

I would call the pharmasist and ask about the morphine
